Closer Watch

Cardinals:Edward Mujica pitched a scoreless ninth on Monday to convert the save and move to 10-for-10 on the season in save chances. He has only allowed three earned runs over this stretch and put together a stellar 10:0 SO/BB rate. With each solid outing, he is further entrenching himself as the go-to closer in St. Louis.

Indians:Chris Perez was available to close on Monday for either of the doubleheaders but was not needed. Justin Masterson threw a complete game gem in the first game and the team was shutout in the second game. Since a blown save on April 3, Perez has not allowed an earned run and has been solid locking the game down in the ninth when he has the opportunity and is healthy.

Recommended Pickup
Andrew Bailey, RP, BOS - Picking up Bailey is your typical high-risk, high-reward situation to bring into a fantasy closing role. Bailey had quick success in the closer role with the Red Sox this season netting five saves in a span of six games pitched and has a 1.46 ERA and 0.811 WHIP on the year. Junichi Tazawa has not excelled in his short time as closer and if Bailey returns in five-to-seven days as expected without setbacks, he would seemingly take the closing spot back immediately given his experience and that Boston traded a respectable group of prospects to acquire him before the 2012 season. If Bailey can stay healthy, and does in fact return as closer, he could be a top option at the unstable closing position the rest of the way for the Red Sox.

Other Recent Recommendations: Oswaldo Arcia, Trevor Bauer, Scott Feldman, Andrelton Simmons, and Heath Bell
