Closer Watch

Blue Jays – Casey Janssen converted his third straight chance Monday, and he's now got five consecutive scoreless appearances under his belt, helping him hold onto this closing job. Perhaps most importantly, there's no one in this bullpen who really sticks out as a closer in waiting.

Rockies – In case you didn't realize, Rex Brothers is here to stay as the closer in Colorado. The news of Betancourt's injury being possibly career-ending pretty much makes it official that Brothers is the closer for the Rockies both short-term and long-term.

Cubs – Kevin Gregg blew his fifth save Sunday, blowing a two-run lead in the 13th inning. Meanwhile, Pedro Strop's looked really solid in a Cubs uniform, and rookie Blake Parker's looked good as well. Gregg's given up runs in three of his last seven outings, and he's kind of been pitching over his head all year. If he blows another one soon, it's not unfathomable that manager Dale Sveum could look to make a change.

Astros – Houston pieced together the ninth with three relievers Monday – Josh Zeid got the first two outs, Kevin Chapman walked the only man he faced, and then Jordan Lyles got one out for his first career save. As far as I'm concerned, you can apply the 10-foot-pole rule liberally here.

Recommended Pickup
Adam Eaton, OF, ARI – Cut loose in many leagues after a slow return from his elbow injury, Eaton could yield great rewards for owners who scoop him up for the final month of the season. He's been heating up lately, going 13-for-36 (.361) over his last eight games with a homer, two doubles, a triple and a steal. He had legit 15/30 upside entering this season, and he could be starting to realize that potential down the stretch as he feels more and more comfortable with his elbow.

Other Recent Recommendations: Marco Estrada, Scooter Gennett, Jarrod Parker, Donnie Murphy, Jedd Gyorko
