Closer Watch

Mets – The back end of the Mets' bullpen, a great strength for them over the last couple months, failed them on Monday against the Giants, with Jeurys Familia allowing the game-tying run in the seventh and Jenrry Mejia giving up the game-winning run in the ninth. The earned runs were the first since June 30 for Familia and the first since July 7 for Mejia, who seemed to tweak his back during the outing. If Mejia's back keeps him out a few games, Familia's the odds-on favorite to see some save chances.

Recommended Pickup
Javier Baez, SS, CHC – Baez getting the call is actionable news, and he's scheduled to be called up from Triple-A in time for Tuesday's game – happily located at Coors Field. With Starlin Castro locked in at short, Baez will have to steal time from Arismendy Alcantara (unless he's sent down in turn) at second or Luis Valbuena at third, but it seems unlikely that the Cubs would make this move if they didn't plan to play the kid. After a slow start to the year, Baez is back to being the power-hitting middle-infield dynamo that we've expected him to be all along. He should be picked up in nearly all formats. If you're selling in a keeper or dynasty format, don't forget that Baez hit 37 homers and stole 20 bases in the minors last year.

Other Recent Recommendations: Jedd Gyorko, Stephen Vogt, Anthony Gose, J.P. Arencibia, Jorge De La Rosa

SP: Alex Wood, ATL ($7,000)
C: Travis d'Arnaud, NYM ($3,100)

SS: Javier Baez, CHC ($4,000)
3B: Brock Holt, BOS ($3,800)
OF: Carlos Gomez, MIL ($4,300)
