Closer Watch

Rays - Jake McGee became the third member of the Tampa Bay bullpen to pick up a save this week for his fourth save of the season. In McGee's last five outings dating back to June 27 McGee has three saves and two holds, and hasn't given up a run since June 5. The other two pitchers that picked up saves this week for the Rays are Grant Balfour and Brad Boxberger. Balfour started off the season poorly, but has lowered his ERA more than a full point to 5.08 in his last eight appearances when he only gave up one run off four hits and three walks. Boxberger on the other hand only pick up his second career save Monday, but his 13.77 K/9 ratio this year shows that he may have the stuff to close out games for any team. All three men are strong candidates for saves, but it would appear that McGee will get the majority of the opportunities at his current pace.

Recommended Pickup

Jeff Locke, SP, PIT - While Locke may not be the sexiest recommendation one could make because of his low strikeout rate the Pirates starter has been eating innings with low averages to boot in 2014 since returning to the rotation June 8. Locke has struck out 26 batters over his 41.2 innings so far this season, and in his last three starts he only had nine, but that was over 21.1 innings where he only gave up seven runs. Any fantasy team looking for a spot start should give Locke a serious look as he not only has had success against the Phillies, but seems to also prefer pitching in day games. In Locke's two career starts against the Phillies he has two wins, and in his two day starts in 2014 he has a 2.08 ERA, 0.62 WHIP, and .146 BAA.

Other Recent Recommendations:Kolten Wong, Josh Tomlin, Caleb Joseph, Jesse Hahn, and Mookie Betts

SS - Brad Miller, SEA ($5,103)
OF - Dayan Viciedo, CWS ($5,827)
SP - Nick Tepesch, TEX ($11,698)
