Closer Watch

Cardinals - With the game tied at three in the top of the eleventh inning Trevor Rosenthal picked up his first loss of the season Friday when he gave up a three-run homer to Wellington Castillo. Rosenthal who is the Cardinals close was in his second inning of work when he gave up the home run, and now boasts an ERA of 7.11 for the early season. While his averages may not look too pretty Rosenthal has converted all three of his save opportunities so far in 2014, and should still have a firm grip on the Cardinals closer role.

Red Sox - Edward Mujica pitched a perfect ninth-inning Friday against the Yankees to pick up his first save as a Red Sox. After a breakthrough season as the closer for the Cardinals last year, Mujica signed with the Red Sox to be the setup man for Koji Uehara, but with the Japanese pitcher unavailable Mujica stepped in to close down Boston's hated rivals. Mujica may not get many more save opportunities this season, but it would seem that he will be the Red Sox's number one option when Uehara is out.

Recommended Pickup

Aaron Harang, P, ATL - Having only given up one-run over 12.2 innings in his first two starts, Harang has shown that he still is capable of being a legitimate fantasy baseball starter in his thirteenth season at the age of 35. Harang has pitched 100-plus innings every season since 2004, and in all but one of those seasons did he make at least 26 starts, but he has been mostly average with a career ERA and WHIP of 4.26 and 1.35 respectively. While Harang will not be capable of keeping his ERA and WHIP below one too many more starts, there is no reason to think that Harang won't be able to be a steady piece the Braves rotation as long as he stays healthy.

Other Recent Recommendations:Josmil Pinto, Kelly Johnson, Yangervis Solarte, Nate Eovaldi, and Charlie Blackmon.
