Closer Watch
Padres -- The last Padre not named Huston Street to record a save was Joe Thatcher back on July 2 when he came in to record the last out of the game after Clayton Richard pitched a strong 8.2 innings of shutout ball. The only other Padre to record a save this season outside of Street and Thatcher was Dale Thayer who picked up five saves in five straight appearances between May 7 and May 19. Now that Street is on the disabled list it would appear that Thatcher, Thayer, and the Padres' eighth inning man as of late, Luke Gregerson, may all have chances to pitch the ninth inning for save opportunities.

Brewers -- Axford recorded his eighth blown save of the season Friday against Houston, to add to what has already been a disappointing season for Milwaukee's usually reliable closer. While it is uncertain if Axford would still have the closer's job if Milwaukee was still in the race for a playoff spot, he has been their man in the ninth up to this point even with a 5.25 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and only 18 saves in 26 chances. Milwaukee seems set to keep Axford in the closers role with the will hope that he will be able to put together a string of strong performances to end the season to boost his confidence for the start of the 2013 campaign.

Recommended Pickup

Other Recent Recommendations:
Tommy Hunter, SP, BAL -- In the four starts and one relief appearance since the All-Star break, Hunter has put up a 3.81 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 26 innings pitched, but has only one win to go with three losses. Sunday seems to be a good day to turn his fortunes around as the Royals are in town, and Hunter has already pitched one of his best games of the season against them on May 16 when he gave up two runs over seven innings at Kauffman Stadium. This time around Hunter will be pitching at Camden Yards where his ERA is 0.77 lower than it is on the road. Right now Hunter may not be much more than a speculative spot start for a fantasy team in a deep league that is in need of a win at the end of the week, but if he is able to put a couple more serviceable starts together, he may become a serious option to a fantasy team looking for to add a starter off the waiver wires for a potential playoff run.

Other recent recommendations: David Murphy, Eric Chavez, Mike McKenry, Domonic Brown, and Jean Segura
