Closer Watch
Tigers – Given a chance to save Sunday's game with Joaquin Benoit getting a day off, Drew Smyly surrendered a solo home run to Paul Konerko. Benoit has a bit of a grip on the role, though Smyly has had an impressive season of his own.

Mariners – Danny Farquhar earned saves both Saturday and Sunday and he seems to be getting a grip on the closer position after the removal of Tom Wilhelmsen.

Angels – Another day, another pathetic performance from Ernesto Frieri. This time it was Frieri allowing a hit and hitting a batter before Dane De La Rosa surrendered the inherited runners. De La Rosa took the blown save, though Frieri certainly played a hand and was pinned with the loss.

Recommended Pickup
Kole Calhoun, OF, LAA – Calhoun was recalled a week ago after the Angels placed Albert Pujols on the DL and he will compete for time in the outfield and at DH, primarily with J.B. Shuck and Collin Cowgill. Calhoun slashed .354/.431/.617 with 12 home runs and ten steals at Triple-A and picked up six starts in eight games. The Angels may give him a long look as they find themselves out of the playoff race at the moment.
