Closer Watch

Tigers - With a six-run lead coming into the top of the ninth inning Joe Nathan must have thought his team wouldn't need his help when Phil Coke took the mound, but he was wrong. Nathan got the call with two men on after a combination of Coke and Al Alburquerque gave up two runs while only recording one out. Nathan then proceeded to let in three more runs, one unearned, but was able to strike out Nelson Cruz and get Chris Davis to fly out in his second at bat of the inning to finish the game. Nathan has been far from spectacular during his first three appearances of the season, but it is clear that there is no better option than him on the current Tigers' roster to be the team's closer.

Recommended Pickup

Chris Owings, SS, ARZ - The Diamondbacks chose Owings as their opening day starting shortstop knowing that he had work to do in the field, but also that his bat had some potential. In the first eight games of the season Owings has hit in six of them while accumulating a .385 average. Owings is also tied for second in the league with three stolen bases, which is a sign of his speed, though at this pace he would have 60-plus bags to his name if he played the full 162-game season. Owings plays a premium position in fantasy baseball in shortstop and should be considered as a waiver wire pickup now on any team that has questions about their current starter.

Other Recent Recommendations:Casey McGehee, Lucas Duda, Marcell Ozuna, Jose Valverde, and Francisco Rodriguez.
