Francisco Peguero: (Wrist/Hamstrings) Outrighted To Triple-A Monday
OFBaltimore Orioles
Wrist
June 23, 2014
Peguero (wrist/hamstrings) was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.
ANALYSIS
Peguero was out of options, and his 40-man roster spot was needed elsewhere, thereby forcing him to continue his rehab at Norfolk. In his last 10 contests at the affiliate, he's hit only .220/.238/.390 with a solo homer, three runs scored, two steals, and one walk versus nine strikeouts. Once his wrist and hamstrings are healthy, another organization could come calling with a friendly opportunity.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2013
2012
Peguero spent most of 2012 in Fresno hitting .272/.297/.394 with five home runs in 476 plate appearances, but also spent the last month of the season in San Francisco. Many thought he would be a consistent high batting average player, but his strikeout rate increased to a pro-worst 17.3 percent when moved to Triple-A. Peguero has the ability to play all three outfield positions, but is best suited in right field despite not having the requisite power profile. In addition, his plate discipline is an immediate problem (3.2 percent walk rate) that might leave him as a fourth outfielder. Expect Peguero to begin 2013 in Triple-A once again.
Knee surgery limited Peguero last season, but he ended up batting .309 in 296 plate appearances for Double-A Richmond. He added five home runs and 37 RBI, but his 45:5 strikeout-to-walk ratio makes evident his need for more discipline at the plate. He had a second operation on his knee during the winter, and may be facing another full season between Double-A and Triple-A before he's on the Giants' radar.
