Pitcher
Yu Darvish, TEX vs. OAK ($10,200): It was a long wait for Darvish to return from injury in June, but it's been mostly good times for him since then. His ERA sits at 2.77 (2.91 xFIP) and his K-rate, following the trend he's shown in past years, has been outstanding at 31.9 percent. It's also been a struggle for the A's offense this season. Over the past two weeks their wRC+ sits at a poor 83. Vegas understandably has Darvish and the Rangers favored by a large margin, -210, as of the writing of this article.
Catcher
Welington Castillo, ARI vs. NYM ($3,000): Southpaw Jon Niese isn't very good. He's allowed 1.97 HR/9 and a 4.52 xFIP to righties this season and his xFIP in August is 6.42. After slumping for much of the summer, 'Beef' Castillo spent 10 days earlier this month out of the lineup but his first game back was Monday. He went 4-for-5 with two extra-base hits. He's also murdered lefties this year to the tune of a 165 wRC+ and .326 ISO.
First Base
Freddie Freeman, ATL vs. MIN ($3,600): Freeman started the season slowly but has stepped up his game over the last couple of months. Since June 1, Freeman's wRC+ is 170 with a .311 ISO. That's elite level hitting and he's at far from an elite level price. Opposing the Braves is righty Kyle Gibson, who's really struggled away from home against left-handed batters, allowing a 5.71 xFIP.
Second Base
Chase Utley, LAD at PHI ($2,800): Reading too much into the narrative around a player can be dangerous but after two home runs and five RBIs in his first game as a visitor in Philadelphia, Utley certainly made those who don't buy into the 'revenge' theory rethink their point of view last night. Young righty Jake Thompson has struggled in his short time in the majors so far and has allowed a .416 wOBA to the handful of lefties he's faced.
Third Base
Adrian Beltre, TEX vs. OAK ($3,500): The 37-year-old may be reaching the twilight years of his career but he's been crushing left-handed pitching as well as ever. On the season he holds a 164 wRC+ against southpaws. Opposing pitcher Sean Manaea has a 5.10 xFIP in August and has ceded a 4.61 xFIP to righties on the season.
Shortstop
Chris Owings, ARI vs. NYM ($2,800): With shortstop eligibility and hopefully the number two spot in the batting order, Owings is another Diamondbacks righty that's thrived against left-handed pitching. He owns a 128 wRC+ and .239 ISO against southpaws this season.
Outfield
Yasmany Tomas, ARI vs. NYM ($3,200): It's hard to like Castillo and Owings on today's slate without loving Tomas too, as he has a 152 wRC+ and .308 ISO against lefties this year. Tomas has also had a pretty crazy August. Despite a .154 BABIP, his wRC+ is 139 (in no doubt largely due to his .439 ISO and six home runs).
Max Kepler, MIN at ATL ($3,600): The longer Kepler has been in the majors, the better his numbers have become. In June, his wRC+ was just 100; so far in August, it's 142. His split against right-handers is especially eye catching and stands a full 68 points higher than his wRC+ against lefties. He'll face Mike Foltynewicz tonight, who has allowed a 5.27 xFIP and 1.85 HR/9 to left-handed batters this season.
Tyler Naquin, CLE vs. CHW ($2,800): Opposing the hot Indians offense is Anthony Ranaudo. who has pitched just 10.1 innings and started just once in the majors this year. His ERA is 8.71 and he gave up two home runs in that lone start. August hasn't been the kindest of months for Naquin but his numbers at home and against righties this season have been too fantastic to overlook at this price. When you combine him hitting while at home and against righties, his wRC+ is 210 and ISO .337. Plus, the Indians offense is hard to miss with right now. Over the past two weeks the team as a whole possesses a 132 wRC+.
