Dream11 Fantasy Soccer: Bayern Munich at Borussia Dortmund Preview

This article is part of our Dream11 Fantasy Soccer series.

Game Preview

As things stand, both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are the league's lone two title candidates with seven games left to play in the Bundesliga. While other sides such as RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach still have a shot – based on numbers – it's unrealistic to see all three teams remaining at the same pace of the aforementioned top duo. The two heavyweights will meet Tuesday in what could be a make-or-break game for both clubs. Dortmund would creep to just one point of the top with a win, while Bayern could extend their lead to seven points if they earn three. Plus, both clubs are coming off back-to-back wins following the restart of the league earlier this month. Last weekend, Dortmund secured a 2-0 win at Wolfsburg while Bayern clinched a 5-2 home win over Frankfurt.

Bayern Munich: Manuel Neuer; Benjamin Pavard, Jerome Boateng, David Alaba, Alphonso Davies; Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka; Kingsley Coman, Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry; Robert Lewandowski

Top Picks

Robert Lewandowski: Lewandowski netted against Frankfurt and, even though he only has one goal in two matches this month, remains the league's top scorer with 27 goals in only 25 league appearances. He is always a good bet to score against his former team, as he has found the back of the net 12 times in 19 previous matches against BVB.

Raphael Guerreiro: Guerreiro has scored three goals in the last two matches since the Bundesliga resumed earlier this month. While his goal-scoring numbers should be reduced at some point, he remains a key piece of Dortmund's attacking line, especially if Jadon Sancho fails to start once again, something that has happened in each of the last two games.

Lineup Strategies

Partnering up Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland might not be the best idea. There's no question Lewandowski and Haaland are two of the best strikers in the Bundesliga. However, these two players are also extremely expensive. Considering there's a limited budget for the entire starting lineup, having just two players chucking up most of the value might not be a very good idea – especially if both fail to score. It would make more sense to go after just one to lead the way. Lewandowski gets the nod here due to his track record, experience, and Haaland's lack of floor.

The left side of the field might make the difference. While Dortmund operate with Achraf Hackimi as right wing-back, Bayern have the tandem of Alphonso Davies and Serge Gnabry on that flank. Whichever side makes the most out of that side of the pitch, might get an edge over their rivals. Hakimi is a particularly solid play given his good run of form over the last two weeks, though it doesn't match left wing-back Guerreiro's production.
