Gets revenge on Marcin Tybura
Spivac defeated Marcin Tybura via submission (armbar) at 1:44 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Spivac dropped a unanimous decision to Tybura when the two first fought back in February 2020. He got his revenge on this evening in a major way. Serghei landed an immediate takedown, but he quickly found himself planted on his back. Seemingly at a massive disadvantage, Spivac just rotated his hips, and with Tybura unable to adjust, grabbed ahold of his arm and quickly earned the stoppage. It was a slick move, but one that should never happen at this level given the dominant position Tybura found himself in. Most of the wins have come against lower-level competition, but Spivac is now 7-2 in his last nine bouts dating back to July 2020. The two defeats over that span came against Ciryl Gane and Tom Aspinall. He'll get another ranked fighter his next time out, but in the meantime, Spivac will walk away with one of three $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses awarded on the evening.

Will face Tybura as main event
Spivac will face Marcin Tybura as the main event match at UFC Vegas 95 on Aug. 10, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Spivac will fight for the first time since September 2023, when he was absolutely destroyed by Ciryl Gane during a Paris bout. The "Polar Bear" owns a 16-4-0 MMA record in his career, but all four of his losses have come at the UFC level, where he's gone a pedestrian 7-4 since making his debut in 2019.

No-shows Paris main event
Spivac lost to Ciryl Gane via TKO (punches) at 3:44 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Paris.
ANALYSIS
Outside of an immediate stoppage defeat, it's nearly impossible to envision a scenario in which Spivac could have looked worse. He seemingly had a real chance to win this fight if he was able to drag Gane to the mat, but Spivac attempted just one takedown the entire fight, and even that was of the token variety. Instead, he was content exchanging strikes with Gane . He was predictably and quickly overwhelmed in the process. It was all very strange. Spivac entered having won six of seven, but the five victories other than his recent submission of Derrick Lewis all came against lower-end competition (Augusto Sakai, Greg Hardy, Aleksei Oleinik, Jared Vanderaa, Carlos Felipe). Although just 28 years old, this may have been Spivac's last real chance to make a run at heavyweight.

Slated to face Gane
Spivac will take on Ciryl Gane in a heavyweight fight at a UFC event in Paris on Sept. 2, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Spivac is coming off a dominant win over Derrick Lewis in a fight that was initially rescheduled. Now, the heavyweight is set to face Gane, who just lost a title fight to Jon Jones in extremely disappointing fashion. Spivac has won three straight fights and six of seven overall, but Gane will be his toughest test to date. Gane will have a major advantage on the feet, but he's struggled against talented grapplers. Spivac certainly fits that bill, averaging more than five takedowns per 15 minutes of fight time in the UFC.

Dominant showing in main event
Spivac defeated Derrick Lewis via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 3:05 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Easy work. Some thought Spivac was being overvalued as a -300 favorite, but it ended up being nowhere near enough. Wisely recognizing the easiest way to defeat Lewis is to force him to move his feet and defend, Spivac landed 6-of-8 takedown attempts in a fight which lasted barely three minutes. He was credited with 2:32 worth of control time, in addition to the arm-triangle choke which closed the show. On the flip side, Lewis didn't land a single strike of any kind. It was a legitimate flawless victory for Spivac. Sergey has no history of defeating better competition -- Lewis doesn't qualify these days -- but he's won three straight (all via stoppage) and six of his last seven. This one also would go on to earn him one of four $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses handed out on the evening. Perhaps a rematch between Spivac and Tybura, who also won on this card, makes some sense. The two fought in February 2020, with Tybura winning via unanimous decision.
