Falls to 1-4 in past five fights
HeavyweightUFC
October 1, 2022
Oleinik lost to Ilir Latifi via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Oleinik remains fairly competitive inside the octagon which is nothing shortly of remarkable considering he turned 45 years of age this past June and is closing in on 80 professional fights. Oleinik's issue is that he has no way of generating offense if one of his trademark submission attempts don't materialize. He allowed Latifi to land 3-of-6 takedowns, good for 8:29 worth of control time. Sporting a 1-4 record in his past five fights dating back to August 2020, the UFC is going to have to be exceedingly careful regard who they match Oleinik up against if they plan on running him back out there.

Facing Latifi in October
HeavyweightUFC
August 25, 2022
Oleinik will face off against Ilir Latifi at the UFC event scheduled for Oct. 1, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Oleinik was supposed to face Latifi in April, but he settled for Jared Vanderaa instead when Latifi withdrew from the card at the last minute. Oleinik earned a victory via submission in that fight, so the 45-year-old will look to score a second consecutive win when he meets Latifi in the Octagon in October.
Snaps three-fight losing streak
HeavyweightUFC
April 9, 2022
Oleinik defeated Jared Vanderaa via submission (scarf hold) at 3:39 of Round 1 at UFC 273 on Saturday in Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
This was the 47th (!!!!) career submission victory for the soon-to-be 45-year-old Oleinik. Neither of those numbers are a misprint. The big Russian doesn't move anywhere near as well as he used to, and he's a liability in prolonged striking battles at his advanced age, but Oleinik still possess the skill set to tap any man foolish enough to engage him on the mat, as Vanderaa did here. Oleinik is difficult to trust on a fight-by-fight basis because he path to victory is so limited, but he's capable of finishes like this one when the opportunity presents itself. The victory is the first in Oleinik's last four fights dating back to May 2020. It will also earn him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus -- his sixth overall while with the UFC.
New opponent for UFC 273
HeavyweightUFC
March 31, 2022
Oleinik will take on Jared Vanderaa in a heavyweight bout at UFC 273 on April 9, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
After the UFC rebooked his fight against Illir Latifi two weeks later, Latifi is off the card again. It's unclear if this is still related to the illness which forced him off in the first bout scheduled for March 26. Vanderaa was in the Octagon a little over a month ago, but fell by split decision.
Rebooked April 9
HeavyweightUFC
March 28, 2022
Oleinik will now take on Ilir Latifi at UFC 273 on April 9, Cole Shelton of BJPenn.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This bout was supposed to take place last weekend, but it was postponed after Latifi came down with an illness. There was an opening on the UFC 273 main card after Nassourdine Imavov had to withdraw from his bout against Kelvin Gastelum due to visa issues, the company will now fill it with this bout instead. Oleinik had been lasted as approximately a (+180) betting underdog for the originally-scheduled matchup.
No fight Saturday
HeavyweightUFC
March 26, 2022
Oleinik (undisclosed) will no longer fight against Latifi after Latifi had to bow out due to a non-COVID illness, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Oleinik gets the short end of the stick after getting through weigh-ins, but there is obviously not enough time to find a replacement in this instance. With the fight scrapped, Neil Magny and Max Griffin have been promoted to the main card.
