Inconsistent ways continue
WelterweightUFC
December 7, 2024
Griffin lost to Michael Chiesa via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:56 of Round 3 at UFC 310 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a highly concerning performance from Griffin against a 37-year-old opponent who has been trending in the wrong direction for years. He was down two rounds on all three scorecards at the time of the stoppage and well on his way to dropping a decision. Griffin allowed just two Chiesa takedowns on eight attempts, but the constant pressure limited his ability to get anything going on the feet. Max also displayed questionable fight IQ at times. Now 39 years of age, Griffin has alternated wins and losses in his last six fights dating back to July 2021. He's the very definition of roster depth.

Scheduled against Chiesa
WelterweightUFC
September 26, 2024
Griffin is scheduled to compete against fellow welterweight Michael Chiesa at UFC 310 in Paradise on Dec. 7, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Griffin's next opponent is a TUF winner in Chiesa, who defeated Tony Ferguson for his first win since 2021. Griffin is also fighting off a win, having barely defeated Jeremiah Wells at the UFC's Feb. 10 event. Both fighters are looking to go 2-0 in 2024.
Barely gets past Jeremiah Wells
WelterweightUFC
February 10, 2024
Griffin defeated Jeremiah Wells via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Either man could have been announced as the winner here, and it would have been perfectly acceptable. Wells was definitely responsible for the larger, more visually-pleasing moments of the fight, but as he does every single time out, Griffin stuck with it. Griffin made things ugly, and while his opponent's effectiveness dipped in Round 3, Max picked up the pace. It was a strong visual for the judges, although Round 1 ended up deciding the bout. Griffin is 38 years old and gets by with grit and determination at this late stage of his career, but you get an honest effort from him each and every time out. Max has alternated wins and losses in his past five fights dating back to July 2021.
Set to fight Wells
WelterweightUFC
December 1, 2023
Griffin will fight Jeremiah Wells at a UFC event scheduled for Feb. 10, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Both fighters will enter the fight after losing their previous bout, although Griffin has won just once since 2022 compared to Wells' three victories in that span.
Unable to derail Michael Morales
WelterweightUFC
July 1, 2023
Griffin lost to Michael Morales via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Griffin was the better man for five minutes before being blown out of the water by one of the top prospects in the sport today. Max stuck close to Morales for the entirety of Round 1, limiting the space of his massive opponent. He became increasingly less effective in that area as the fight progressed and Morales responded by landing a ton of power shots. Griffin attempted to flip the script by wrestling, but failed on all eight of his takedown tries. Set to turn 38 years of age in late November, Max remains a well-respected veteran at 170 pounds, but this was a big ask. "Pain" has alternated losses and wins in his past four fights.

WelterweightUFC
April 29, 2023
Griffin will face off against Michael Morales at UFC Vegas 76 on July 1, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Griffin most recently took down Tim Means by way of split decision in October, and he has won four of his last five fights in the UFC. The 37-year-old American fighter will look to continue building his resume against Michael Morales in July.
