Contract expires with another loss
Alvey lost to Michal Oleksiejczuk via TKO (punches) at 1:56 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 40 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This was uncomfortable to watch. Competing in the final bout of his contract and in the midst of an unheard of eight-fight winless streak, Alvey pushed the streak to nine, breaking a tie with B.J. Penn for a record no fighter ever wants to hold. As usual, Alvey showed a tremendous amount of heart and somehow worked his way back to his feet after being knocked down and seemingly left for dead in the early going, but a second knockdown was all referee Herb Dean needed to see to wisely halt the proceedings. Alvey stepped into the Octagon whenever the UFC asked and considering his limited offensive skill set, did pretty well. His run with the company will end with a 10-12-1 mark, although you won't find a more likable and genuine personality in the sport.

Makes weight on second attempt
Alvey successfully weighed in at the middleweight non-title limit of 186 pounds on Friday ahead of Saturday's matchup with Michal Oleksiejczuk.
ANALYSIS
After initially tipping the scales at one pound over the middleweight limit, Alvey will no longer have to forfeit some of his purse after making weight on his second attempt Friday. Alvey desperately needs a victory at UFC Vegas 59 if he wants to remain with the promotion, as Saturday will mark the final fight on his current contract with the UFC. Alvey has gone winless over his last eight fights, having last earned a victory in June of 2018.

Misses weight by one pound
Alvey will forfeit a fraction of his purse for Saturday's bout with Michal Oleksiejczuk after weighing in at one pound over the middleweight limit Friday, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvey was reportedly 22 pounds over the middleweight limit as recent as Wednesday night, and he ultimately wasn't able to get down to 186 pounds before hitting the scale. The fight will go on as scheduled at UFC Vegas 59, but Alvey will not have the opportunity to earn his full purse, regardless of the outcome Saturday.

Pegged for Aug. 6 bout
Alvey will take on Michal Oleksiejczuk on the UFC's Aug. 6 card, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvey's UFC career has been on a downward spiral over the past few years. He last earned a victory against Gian Villante back in June of 2018 and has lost seven of his last eight bouts since then, tallying a draw to sport a 0-7-1 record over that span. He was given a six-month suspension after healing dealt a possible tooth issue back in February and it will indeed be nearly a full six months before he returns to the Octagon. It also marks the final fight on his current contract, so he may need to put on a show to have any chance of another. Oleksiejczuk is coming off of a loss versus Dustin Jacoby in his last bout but had won his previous two contests and is moving down to middleweight for the first time since he attempted to do so in his MMA debut, when he missed weight by nearly six pounds. Alvey holds a two-inch height and a one-inch reach advantage, which could work in his favor in a bout that features two fighters who primarily stay upright.

Suffers injury in first-round loss
Alvey has been suspended six months by the Nevada Athletic Commission pending review of a possible tooth issue, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This could very well be a moot point, as multiple media outlets have reported Alvey being dropped from the UFC rankings pool following his record-setting eighth consecutive UFC defeat. Should the 35-year-old attempt to continue his MMA career elsewhere, he'll need to get clearance if he wishes to compete prior to August in any jurisdiction that honors the NAC's ruling.
