Losing streak hits three
Lentz lost to Movsar Evloev via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC 257 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
Lentz is as tough as they come, but this one wasn't a close as the "split decision" term would lead you to believe. Lentz may have very well deserved Round 1 on the strength of a deep guillotine choke that had Evloev in all sorts of trouble, but he pretty clearly dropped the final two frames after being pounded by his opponent on the feet. Lentz has been with the UFC since September of 2009, and Saturday was his 25th fight with the company, but it conceivably may have been his last. Lentz has lost three in a row and is without a victory dating back to February 2019. Lentz offers little upside at age 36, although his long history with the UFC and his willingness to accept any fight may lead to him getting another opportunity with the company.

Gets new opponent for UFC 257
Lentz (30-11-2, 1 NC) is now scheduled to face Movsar Evloev (13-0-0) in a featherweight fight Saturday at UFC 257 in Abu Dhabi, Mike Heck of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lentz was initially pitted against Mike Grundy, but that matchup was scrapped Sunday, when Grundy withdrew from the fight after one of his team members tested positive for COVID-19. The promotion quickly found a replacement for Grundy in the undefeated Evloev, who coincidentally defeated Grundy in his last bout on Fight Island back in July. Lentz, meanwhile, is coming off a loss in a his last fight, which came just under a year ago at UFC Raleigh at the hands of Arnold Allen.

Grundy fight scrapped
Mike Grundy is out of the fight with Nik Lentz at UFC FIght Island 7 on Jan. 16 after he announced Sunday that one of his team members tested positive for COVID-19.
ANALYSIS
Lentz will only have to wait a week as he'll instead face Movsar Evloev at UFC 257 on Jan. 23. Lentz hasn't fought since he lost to Arnold Allen via unanimous decision almost a year ago on Jan. 26 and will take on an undefeated Evloev who recently defeated Grundy when the two met in July.

Booked against Grundy
Lentz will take on Mike Grundy (face) in a featherweight matchup at a UFC event scheduled for Jan. 16, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Lentz hasn't fought in nearly a year, but he'll return to the Octagon in early 2021. His most recent fight was at UFC Raleigh in January, when he lost to Arnold Allen via unanimous decision. He's now dropped two consecutive fights, but he'll attempt to get back on track against Grundy. Grundy was handed a medical suspension following his last fight, as he lost to Movsar Evloev via unanimous decision in July. Grundy has a lack of power that has limited his potential under the UFC banner. The fighters are even in height, but Grundy has an advantage in reach.

Drops close decision to Allen
Lentz lost to Arnold Allen via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 27-30) at UFC Raleigh on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Lentz got off to a fast start in a first round in which the total strike count was dead even at 20, but he was narrowly outpointed by Allen in the next two frames. He threw significantly more volume than Allen, but was bested by a long shot in the accuracy department. There's no shame in losing to an undefeated prospect, and this fight was certainly closer than expected, but the 35-year-old Lentz may now be relegated to gatekeeper status after dropping his last two bouts.
