Drops decision in Vegas opener
HeavyweightUFC
July 20, 2024
Usman lost to Thomas Petersen via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Fresh off the first defeat of his UFC career, Usman once again put forth another lackluster performance. He was constantly outworked by Petersen throughout the course of the bout, firing off one blow and then refusing to throw any follow-up strikes. Usman also gave up a pair of takedowns for good measure. Already 35 years of age, Usman's time with the company is on thin ice despite the fact he won Season 30 of The Ultimate Fighter less than two years ago.

Looks to rebound in July
HeavyweightUFC
June 21, 2024
Usman is scheduled to compete against Thomas Peterson in a heavyweight fight at UFC Vegas 91 on July 20, per John Morgan of The Underground.
ANALYSIS
Usman is looking to rebound from his first UFC loss, which occurred against Michael Parkin at UFC Vegas 89. The former will look to take advantage of a newcomer in Peterson, who has recently lost his last fight despite having an 8-2 record in 10 bouts.
Suffers first UFC defeat
HeavyweightUFC
March 23, 2024
Usman lost to Michael Parkin via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Usman hung around for 15 minutes, but there's zero question that his best round was the first. Repeated leg kicks from Parkin left Usman hobbled the second half of the bout. Mohammed moves pretty well for a heavyweight, but he typically weighs in around 240 pounds, far less than most guys in the division. As a result, Usman doesn't have the stopping power typically associated with bigger fighters. This was his first defeat in four UFC bouts, but the company has been exceedingly careful regarding who they have matched him up against. Set to turn 35 years of age in a week, the upside here appears quite limited.

Usman's original opponent, Chris Barnett, was forced to withdraw from the fight for unknown reasons. Usman has yet to lose three fights into his UFC career; however, his new opponent boasts a similar 2-0 UFC record and is undefeated in eight professional fights.
Booked for UFC Vegas 88
HeavyweightUFC
January 15, 2024
Usman will square off against Chris Barnett at UFC Vegas 88 on March 23, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Usman is coming off a victory over Jake Collier via unanimous decision to bring his record with the company to 3-0. He also has wins over Zac Pauga and Junior Tafa. He will put his undefeated record on the line against Barnett, who happens to also be coming off a win over Collier.
Remains perfect in UFC
HeavyweightUFC
September 23, 2023
Usman defeated Jake Collier via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It took Usman a round to get things going, but once he did, he was firmly out ahead of Collier the rest of the way. Perhaps not coincidentally, Usman clipped Jake with an eye poke early in Round 2 which seemed to slow the latter's momentum. Mohammed responded by increasing the volume in the striking game before securing a huge takedown in Round 3. Usman has picked up wins in each of his first three UFC bouts, but they've all come against lesser competition (Collier, Junior Tafa, Zac Pauga). Toss in the fact he'll be 35 years of age next April, and Usman's upside is still quite limited.
