Will fight Nuerdanbieke in Vegas
Costa is scheduled to fight Shayilan Nuerdanbieke at featherweight for UFC Vegas 93 on Jun. 15, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Costa will get a shot at redemption after getting knocked out against Steve Garcia in UFC Fight Night back in December. The Brazilian featherweight, who sports a record of 20-7, will take on Nuerdanbieke who has not seen the mat since April of 2023 where he also lost to Garcia via KO.

Loses as big favorite
Costa lost to Steve Garcia via KO (elbows) at 1:01 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
What a disaster. These two were supposed to fight last week before a Garcia illness forced the bout to be pushed back. They finally got it on here, and Costa quickly melted after a brilliant first round. A wild combination from Garcia sent Mel crashing to the mat, and although referee Chris Tognoni gave him more than enough time to recover, it was simply never happening. Costa has fought three times since making his UFC debut in January 2023. He was submitted by Thiago Moises in his first fight with the company before earning a unanimous decision win over Austin Lingo in July. He needs a win his next time out, as a 1-3 start could potentially result in a release.

Garcia matchup set for weekend
Costa's scheduled featherweight matchup against Steve Garcia will now take place at UFC Vegas 83 on December 9, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
The two were originally supposed to square off at UFC Austin last weekend, but Garcia was forced to withdraw due to illness. Costa allowed his opponent a week to recover and the bout was quickly rescheduled, and he now sits as approximately a (-260) betting favorite as of Thursday afternoon.

Bout called off
Costa's featherweight fight against Steve Garcia at UFC Austin on Saturday has been canceled since Garcia has an illness, Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's some unfortunate luck for Costa, who defeated Austin Lingo in July for his first UFC victory. It seems likely Costa will have to wait until 2024 to get back into the Octagon.
