Overcomes slow start to win debut
Gadzhiyasulov defeated Brendson Ribeiro via majority decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
ANALYSIS
Entering as upwards of a -400 favorite for his first official UFC bout, Gadzhiyasulov looked underwhelming until Ribeiro tired out. Magomed gave up three takedowns in Round 1, had to fight off a deep submission attempt in Round 2, and absorbed countless painful low kicks that left him hobbled. He managed to get his grappling game going midway through the fight and that helped lead him to victory, but this definitely wasn't an encouraging performance. Gadzhiyasulov will look for a more dominant effort his next time out.
