Losing streak hits three
Formiga lost to Alex Perez via TKO (leg kicks) at 4:06 of Round 1 at UFC 250 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Formiga's training camp clearly didn't include practice on how to defend the leg kick. A fighter with extremely limited power, Formiga is going to struggle whenever a bout is contested entirely on the feet, and that's where this one took place. The Brazilian doesn't have a single knockout victory in his career despite having more than 30 professional fights under his belt. Formiga was riding high following a unanimous decision victory over Deiveson Figueiredo in March 2019, but he has lost three-straight fights (Joseph Benavidez, Brandon Moreno, Perez) since.

Looks to bounce back in June
Formiga will take on Alex Perez in a flyweight matchup at a yet-to-be-determined location June 6, Raphael Marinho of Combate reports.
ANALYSIS
This is one of very few fights the promotion currently has booked for the event in line to be called UFC 250. Formiga was upset by Brandon Moreno in his last walk to the Octagon, which happened to occur in the UFC's most recent live event in Brazil on March 14. Perez, on the other hand, has won back-to-back fights and is 5-1 with the company, with his only loss being to one of the top flyweights in Joseph Benavidez. Formiga has recorded at least one takedown in each of his last six fights, though offensive wrestling volume leans with Perez -- albeit over a shorter sample size. Perez has the edge in striking volume, but Formiga owns superior striking defense marks.

Crushing loss to Brandon Moreno
Formiga lost to Brandon Moreno via unanimous decision (27-30, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Brasilia, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
It was a close fight and one in which Formiga may have very well deserved a better fight. He appeared to clearly win Round 1 while Rounds 2 and 3 were up in the air. Formiga fought considerably better than the numbers would lead you to believe. One of the UFC's more decorated submission artists, Formiga was credited with just one successful takedown on nine tries. He did next to nothing on the feet -- as usual -- but the Brazilian was effective enough in mat situations for this fight to be closer than what the judge's scorecards dictated. Formiga has now lost back-to-back fights on the heels of a four-fight winning streak. His biggest flaw is the lack of power in his hands. Formiga has had plenty of success over the course of his long career but somehow still doesn't have a knockout win on his resume.

Set to fight at UFC Brasilia
Formiga will take on Brandon Moreno in a flyweight bout at UFC Brasilia on March 14, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Formiga was widely regarded as one of the top fighters in the flyweight division as he rode a four-fight winning streak into UFC Minneapolis in June, but he was defeated by Joseph Benavidez via TKO (punches) in the second round. The loss marked his second to Benavidez in his career and could cost Formiga a shot at the title. He'll look to bounce back against Moreno, who's coming off a win over Kai Kara-France at UFC 245 in the middle of December. While Moreno is known as a submission specialist, he showed vast improvements in his striking against Kara-France. However, Formiga has rarely been able to generate much significant striking, but his grappling is where he is able to succeed, as he has recorded takedowns in two of his past two fights. Moreno carries slight advantages in height and reach.

Crushing loss to Joseph Benavidez
Formiga lost to Joseph Benavidez via TKO (punches) at 4:47 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Minneapolis.
ANALYSIS
Formiga has been one of the best flyweights in the world for years, but his inability to beat Benavidez -- both now, and in their first fight in September 2013 -- will be the main reason he seems likely to go down in UFC history as one of the best fighters to never receive a title opportunity. Formiga has been knocked out just three times in his pro career, but two of them have come against Joe B. The future of the UFC's 125-pound division remains up in the air, but this loss figures to be the fatal blow for Formiga's title hopes. It's a shame because he's a darn good fighter and has been one of the most underrated athletes on the UFC roster for years.
