Gets right back in win column
Van defeated Edgar Chairez via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 306 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Fresh off a knockout loss to Charles Johnson in July, Van accepted this fight just a couple weeks ago. He admitted he wasn't training at the time. He predictably started very slowly here before finding his range. Van is a high-volume puncher and cardio machine. He simply overwhelmed Chairez with blows in Round 2, particularly to the body. The onslaught continued into the final frame. Over the course of the final 10 minutes, Van landed 160 total strikes compared to 47 from Edgar. He also connected on three takedowns. Still just 22 years of age, Van has fought five times (4-1) since his June 2023 UFC debut. There's no way he is going to be able to keep that pace moving forward despite the run of success.

Steps in to face Chairez
Van has stepped in to replace Kevin Borjas and will now face Edgar Chairez at UFC Noche on Sep. 14, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Chairez was expected to take on Borjas, but Van has stepped in to replace the latter, who retired due to undisclosed reasons. Van remains perfect at the UFC level, but he hasn't stepped on the octagon since the beginning of the year.

Suffers first UFC defeat
Van lost to Charles Johnson via KO (punch) at 0:20 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Denver.
ANALYSIS
For quite a while, this looked like a typical Van fight. He again started slowly, allowing Johnson to set the pace early on. Van really got going late in Round 1 and through the vast majority of Round 2. Then something strange happened. Johnson came out like a house of fire early in Round 3, and Van crumbled. Just 22 years of age, Josh is known as an elite cardio guy with the ability to outwork his opposition late in fights and that didn't happen here. The early stoppage by referee Joe Coca didn't help matters, but Van was definitely rocked. The lone bit of good news for Van is that he won each of his first three UFC bouts, so his roster spot is plenty secure.

Will take on Johnson
Van will fight Charles Johnson in a flyweight bout at UFC Denver on July 13, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Van has had no less than four straight cancelled bouts in 2024, but it appears he'll finally step into the octagon for the first time since defeating Felipe Bunes in January. Van is currently sitting at 3-0-0 as a UFC fighter, and will look to keep his perfect streak alive against Johnson, who is also on a winning streak, winning his last two fights.
