Gets new opponent
Emmett will now fight Bryce Mitchell at UFC 296 on Dec. 16, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Emmett's original opponent, Giga Chikadze, was forced to withdraw due to a groin injury. Emmett may be able to take advantage of the fact Mitchell will be fighting on short notice, though Emmett is still on a two-fight losing streak, while Mitchell has lost just one of eight fights in his UFC career.

Scheduled against Chikadze
Emmett will compete against Giga Chikadze in a featherweight fight at UFC 296 in Paradise on Dec. 16, according to Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca.
ANALYSIS
Emmett will have the opportunity to end his 2023 on a positive note. He submitted to Yair Rodriguez during their fight for the interim UFC Featherweight Championship at UFC 284. Emmett was then fed to undefeated prospect Ilia Topuria, who did not give a single round to his older counterpart during their fight at UFC on ABC 5. But by defeating a once-out-of-form featherweight in Chikadze, Emmett could be back on track.

Epic display of toughness in loss
Emmett lost to Ilia Topuria via unanimous decision (44-50, 42-50, 45-49) at UFC on ABC 5 on Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida.
ANALYSIS
It was one of the great displays of toughness you will ever see inside the Octagon. As the scores indicate, Emmett was pounded by Topuria from bell to bell. It appeared as if he was going to be finished off on multiple occasions, most notably late in Round 4, a frame in which he absorbed a whopping 56 total strikes from his opponent. Emmett or his corner would have been well within their rights to pull the plug at any time, and no one would have thought any less of either. He was able to finish the one-sided fight, however, and his heart was at least rewarded in the form of a $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus after the show. Emmett is an excellent featherweight with real stopping power in his hands, but he also turned 38 years of age in early March and has dealt with multiple serious injuries in the past. Emmett has some quality wins on his resume (Calvin Kattar, Dan Ige, Shane Burgos, etc.) during his time with the UFC, but it's a stretch to put him on the same level as the top guys in the division. It's highly likely we have already seen the best Emmett has to offer with the UFC.
