Second straight first-round victory
Amorim defeated Cory McKenna via submission (armbar) at 1:38 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Fresh off a first-round knockout win over Montserrat Ruiz last August, her first with the UFC, Amorim looked even better here against a considerably tougher opponent. She gave up an early takedown to McKenna, but immediately clamped on a deep triangle choke before transitioning to the armbar that ended the fight. Amorim is much better on the mat than the feet, so it felt like a real mistake by McKenna to give her that opportunity. With back-to-back first-round stoppage wins on her resume, Amorim figures to face better competition her next time out. In the meantime, she'll take home a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for her efforts here.

Cruises to first UFC victory
Amorim defeated Montserrat Ruiz via TKO (strikes) at 3:41 of Round 3 at UFC on ESPN 51 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Entering as a -245 favorite, this appeared to be a prime rebound spot for Amorim on the heels of her unanimous decision defeat to Sam Hughes in her company debut this past April and she took full advantage. Unlike the Hughes fight in which Amorim started quickly and faded, she kept up the pace here, simply overwhelming Ruiz from bell-to-bell. The Brazilian displayed solid wrestling and some vicious ground-and-pound. It's hard to get a read on Amorim's long-term potential given she has all of eight pro fights under her belt at age 28, but this was a nice effort.

Slated to face Ruiz
Amorim will take on Montserrat Ruiz in a strawweight bout at a UFC event on Aug. 12 in Las Vegas, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
Amorim is fresh off her UFC debut in early April, falling to Sam Hughes via unanimous decision. She'll look to get on the winning side of the octagon against an opponent who is 1-1 in UFC matches. Amorim checks in at three inches taller than Ruiz, with about six more inches of wingspan as well.
