Retirement likely after loss
LightweightUFC
November 16, 2024
Jackson lost to Jim Miller via submission (guillotine choke) at 2:44 of Round 1 at UFC 309 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
Jackson left his gloves in the Octagon afterwards, which typically signals retirement. Whether he's stepping aside or not, Jackson is going to be kicking himself for how this one ended. Facing an opponent in Miller whose win condition at this stage of his career is typically via submission, Damon pushed forward on a takedown attempt and lazily left his neck exposed in the process. It's a mistake you simply cannot make at this level, especially when your opponent is Miller. He was tapping out moments later. If this is indeed the end, Jackson ends his UFC with a 6-6-1 (1NC) record in 14 fights with the company.

Scheduled for MSG event
LightweightUFC
October 2, 2024
Jackson is scheduled to compete against fellow lightweight Jim Miller at UFC 309 in New York City on Nov. 16, according to Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com.
ANALYSIS
For his next fight, Jackson will compete against one of the UFC's most tenured fighters in Miller, who has been with the promotion since 2008. Jackson will look to finish his 2024 on a high note after getting soundly defeated by Jose Marsical back in August.
No-shows Vegas loss
LightweightUFC
August 10, 2024
Jackson lost to Jose Mariscal via unanimous decision (25-30, 26-30, 25-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
All you need to do is check out the scorecards to see how Jackson's evening went. This was a highly concerning effort for Damon on multiple fronts. Jackson is super tough and excels in these grinding type of fights. He showed a ton of heart in simply seeing the final bell considering referee Jason Herzog appeared close to stopping the bout on multiple occasions. Every single time Jackson appeared to be making some headway, Marsical immediately took back momentum. Damon found himself on the short end of a 218-49 disadvantage in terms of total strikes landed. He also gave up five takedowns. It was a rout from start to finish. Now 36 years of age, this is the type of performance that makes you think the finishing line is approaching for Jackson sooner rather than later. He's just 1-3 in his last four fights dating back to January 2023.
Mariscal up next
LightweightUFC
July 10, 2024
Jackson is scheduled to compete against Jose Mariscal in a featherweight fight at UFC Vegas 95 on Aug. 10, per Damon Martin of MMA Fighting.
ANALYSIS
Jackson began his 2024 by defeating Alexander Hernandez at UFC Vegas 90. He will look to build a winning streak by defeating Mariscal, a fellow winner at UFC Vegas 90 back in April.
Snaps brief losing streak
LightweightUFC
April 6, 2024
Jackson defeated Alexander Hernandez via split decision (29-28, 27-30, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's going to go down as one of the most lucrative evenings of Jackson's long pro career. He'll leave the UFC Apex with both his show and win bonus, plus a (likely hefty) portion of Hernandez's purse after the latter missed weight on Friday morning, prompting this featherweight fight to be turned into a 148-pound catch weight bout. When the bell rang, Jackson did his usual thing. He stuck tight to his opponent, landed three takedowns, and survived a Round 3 knockdown from Hernandez. Most importantly is the victory snaps a two-fight losing streak for the 35-year-old Texan.
Fighting heavy opponent
LightweightUFC
April 5, 2024
Jackson will face a heavy Alexander Hernandez during Saturday's featherweight matchup at UFC Vegas 90, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jackson will likely receive a heavy bite out of Alexander Hernandez's purse after the latter weighed in five pounds above the featherweight limit. The 35-year-old American will look to get back on track this weekend after losing both of his fights in 2023.
