McGregor (toe) revealed he's targeting a return to the octagon in August or September, according to Andy Stevenson of SevereMMA.com. "August or September, you know the way it is. [...] I'm three weeks into the recovery and I still can't get into a shoe yet."
ANALYSIS
McGregor was scheduled to fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29, but he withdrew from the fight due to this injury, and the star lightweight revealed when he plans to be back in the octagon. His recovery will ultimately dictate when he'll be able to fight again, but it seems McGregor might be able to step into an octagon before the end of this year.

Reveals toe injury

McGregor withdrew from UFC 303 because of a toe injury, according to MMA reporter Ariel Helwani.
ANALYSIS
McGregor recently posted on Instagram the reason why he withdrew from UFC 303, citing a broken toe on the same left foot that he injured back at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier in July 2021. He reportedly only "needs a few weeks" to recover, suggesting a potential fight from him down the line is still on the table. The question is when, and if said bout will be scheduled against Michael Chandler again or someone else.

McGregor is out of UFC 303 on June 29 in Las Vegas, per UFC President Dana White.
ANALYSIS
Chandler was scheduled to be McGregor's first opponent since July 2021, when he suffered a lower-leg injury during his trilogy matchup with Dustin Poirier. However, the Irishman is reportedly dealing with an undisclosed injury, resulting in his first fight withdrawal with the promotion. With the McGregor-Chandler bout officially scrapped, 303's new main event will be a rematch between champion Alex Pereira and challenger Jiri Prochazka for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
UFC 303 fight in jeopardy?
LightweightUFC

June 4, 2024
The UFC is allegedly exploring other options for McGregor's scheduled matchup against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29 in Las Vegas, MMA journalist Ariel Helwani reports.
ANALYSIS
To be clear, the fight is still on at the present moment. However, after a Monday press conference in Dublin was cancelled at the last minute, rumors started to swirl about the status of the headline matchup at the UFC's flagship event. McGregor posted himself via X that the "press conference was cancelled due to a series of obstacles outside of our control," which unfortunately offers little in terms of specifics. Helwani also confirmed on his weekly show that the press conference wasn't cancelled due to a drug/alcohol issue or drug testing violation, so at least one option can seemingly be ruled out. It will be a story certainly worth continuing to monitor with the event just over three weeks away.
Comeback official at welterweight

UFC CEO Dana White has confirmed a welterweight fight between McGregor and Michael Chandler for UFC 303 in Las Vegas on June 29, per Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
Dana White has said the fight will take place at 170 pounds, marking McGregor's first welterweight bout since January 2020, when he defeated Donald Cerrone and earned his latest win. Finally, McGregor is scheduled to fight for the first time since UFC 264 from July 2021, when he lost to Dustin Poirier during their trilogy bout. It was then when the Irishman suffered a leg injury that began his extended time off, which included a delay of entry into the promotion's testing pool and a season of The Ultimate Fighter with Chandler. McGregor is 2-1 at welterweight, having split results against Nate Diaz back in 2016.
Returning to Octagon in June
LightweightUFC

December 31, 2023
McGregor (lower leg) announced Sunday he will face Michael Chandler in a fight at UFC's June 29 event in Las Vegas, Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
"The Notorious" hasn't been in the Octagon since suffering the lower leg injury against Dustin Poirier in July 2021, and his return has been pushed back multiple times over the past two years. McGregor re-entered UFC's anti-doping program in October after the USADA elected to no longer oversee the initiative, which simplified his return to action. McGregor lost to Poirier in his last two bouts and is looking for his first win since 2020, which came against Donald Cerrone. Chandler is also coming off a loss to Poirier in November 2022.
