No longer with UFC
Overeem officially parted ways with the UFC on Wednesday, Mike Bohn of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Overeem is a former title challenger, but may go down as the best heavyweight in UFC history to never ultimately capture the gold. He had been 4-2 in his last six appearances with the company, but at 40 years old and coming off a TKO loss to Alexander Volkov, the UFC is no longer interested in booking him for another fight. The future hall-of-famer will exit the company with a professional record of 47-19-0 (1 NC), and he'll likely have several suitors elsewhere if he wishes to continue his MMA career. Should that be the case, Overeem will have to get a medical suspension resulting from his loss to Volkov cleared up.

Out for six months
Overeem (nose) is facing a six-month medical suspension following his loss to Alexander Volkov on Saturday, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Overeem took a beating in the second-round TKO defeat, fracturing his nose. He won't be able to fight again until Aug. 6 unless cleared by an ENT. Even if cleared, he'll be out until at least April 8.

Suffered broken nose in defeat
Overeem revealed that he suffered a broken nose Saturday in his second-round TKO loss to Alexander Volkov at UFC Fight Night 184 in Las Vegas, Danny Segura of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Overeem relayed that he was unable to recover from the punch to the nose he took in the first round, which ultimately led to referee Jason Herzog calling an end to the match less than a minute into Round 2. The 40-year-old is nearing the end of his professional career, but he didn't offer any hints after Saturday's loss that he's ready to retire. With the loss to Volkov, Overeem has gone 4-2 over his last six fights.

Smashed by Alexander Volkov
Overeem lost to Alexander Volkov via TKO (punches) at 2:06 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was an excellent stoppage from referee Jason Herzog and one that saved Overeem from certain future punishment. Alistair has been up and down over the course of his long, storied career, but this was one of his worst performances in recent memory. It's baffling as to why Overeem thought standing in front of a deadly kickboxer such as Volkov while not throwing any combinations of his own was a viable strategy for success. Clearly fading at age 40, Overeem has been a .500 fighter over the course of the past three-plus years. Like Frankie Edgar in Saturday's co-main event, the UFC is going to have to be exceedingly careful about who they match Alistair up against if they are committed to running him back out there.

Books headliner
Overeem will take on Alexander Volkov in a heavyweight matchup as the headliner at UFC Fight Night on Feb. 6, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Overeem has acknowledged that he could be approaching the end of his career, but he's recorded four stoppage wins in his last five fights as he makes what could be a final run at a UFC title. The 40-year-old beat Augusto Sakai via TKO (punches) in a headline fight in September and will now face another formidable opponent in Volkov. Volkov defeated Walt Harris via TKO (strikes) at UFC 254 in October and was proficient both offensively and defensively. Volkov has an edge in height, but the fighters are even in reach.
