Sateri has opted to return to Europe after signing a one-year deal with EHC Biel-Bienne (Switzerland), Arizona Coyotes Insider Craig Morgan reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
Sateri signed a mid-season contract with the Maple Leafs but was then picked up off waivers by the Coyotes. The 32-year-old netminder saw action in six games for Arizona in which he posted a 2-2-1 record and .866 save percentage. Rather than re-upping with the Yotes, it appears Sateri will head back overseas.

Sateri -- who made his NHL debut last season at 28 years old and appeared in nine games with Florida -- earned a one-year deal with Detroit this offseason. Selected in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by San Jose, the Finnish netminder spent several years with the Sharks AHL squad before heading to Russia to play in the KHL for three seasons. Sateri posted a 4-4-0 NHL record alongside a .911 save percentage and 2.92 GAA last year. For now, he'll slot behind Jimmy Howard and Jonathan Bernier on the depth chart and shouldn't garner much fantasy attention.
Sateri looked like he was the third-string twinetender for the Sharks despite posting a pretty rough 2.95 goals against average and a save percentage of .894 through 45 games last season in the AHL. Even still, it wasn't a bad position to be in with Antti Niemi's contract expiring after this season and the Sharks looking to re-focus on the youth. But that didn't appeal to Sateri, who has jumped ship and will be playing in the KHL this season. The Sharks retain his rights if he decides to return to the NHL, but we won't be seeing him this season.
Sateri saw his status in the Sharks organization slip with a middling 2011-12 with Worcester of the AHL. He has a great work ethic, but like a lot of young butterfly goalies, he still goes down too early and too soon. But, he has found the adjustment to the smaller North American ice a real challenge. We still like Sateri's pedigree, but he needs to buckle down and deliver. And he needs to do it right off the top or he'll end up in the dreaded East Coast league. He'll battle Tyson Sexsmith for the privilege to back up Worcester's starter, Alex Stalock, this year.
Team Teal has a number of goalies developing in the system, but at 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, Sateri is one of the biggest in terms of build. The Finnish netminder turned pro with AHL Worcester last season, posting a 2.56 goals-against average and .918 save percentage through seven games. He should not be on your fantasy radar in 2011-12.
The Finnish goalie with the rhyming name inked an entry-level deal with the Sharks in July of 2010. He's been dutifully turning away pucks in Europe, and when he gets his first shot with the Sharks most likely depends on how Team Teal's potential three-headed monster in goal (Antero Niittymaki, Antti Niemi, and Thomas Greiss) shakes out this year.

Sateri and the Coyotes remain in contract discussions, Arizona Coyotes Insider Craig Morgan reports Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
With Arizona signing Jon Gillies, there was some speculation this would close the door on Sateri returning to the club but it seems that is not the case. While Karel Vejmelka will likely enter the season as the presumptive No. 1, Sateri could be in the mix for the backup job if he can edge out Gillies during training camp.
