First top-25 of season
July 8, 2019
Saunders carded a bogey-free four-under 67 in the final round of the 3M Open to finish in a share of 23rd place.
ANALYSIS
Saunders shot himself out of a chance at the victory after his finish in round three that saw him play the final seven holes in six-over-par. He ended the tournament with the fifth-most birdies in the field (24), but he just needed to avoid a couple big numbers. Saunders was outside the top-60 in FIR's and GIR's, but he ranked fourth in SG: Around and T10 in putts per GIR. This was his first top-25 in 22 starts this season on the PGA Tour. Saunders will need to close out the year really strong, starting with the John Deere Classic, if he hopes to sneak into the playoffs.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2015
Saunders' fourth on the PGA Tour in 2017-18 and continues to show improvement. He earned just less than $600k in his rookie season of 2015 and while he took a step back in 2016, he got back on track the following season when he earned nearly $700k. He posted a career-high last season when he nearly topped $1 million. While he's definitely getting better, his progress is slow, which makes it appear as though there's not a ton of upside there. As such, Saunders isn't a great salary cap option this season.
The well-documented grandson of the legendary Arnold Palmer, Saunders earned himself PGA Tour status the last three seasons, gradually improving his earnings efficiency during that time. With another year on Tour just about locked up, he will have the opportunity to take another step forward, but don't expect anything drastic. Saunders is a solid driver of the ball but lacks in his iron game, where he's lost strokes to the field each of the last three seasons. He will need to see that aspect improve if he's going to expect more top-10 finishes.
First of all, here's hoping the golf gods shine brightly down on Saunders and give him a great 2016-17 PGA Tour season in the starts he gets to continue the great legacy of his grandfather. On the golfing side of things we'll see him some on the PGA Tour and a bunch on the Web.com Tour. He'll need to fix both his driving and iron play as he was 142ndin strokes gained-tee to green and 140th in strokes gained-total while ranking 128th in greens in regulation.
Let’s get this out of the way: He’s Arnold Palmer’s grandson. Saunders registered four top 16s in the Web.com Tour finals, after having a lackluster regular season. The 27-year-old from Clemson played one PGA Tour event last year – yes, it was Bay Hill. But he acquitted himself nicely, finishing T43 (after a final-round 77). It’s a feel-good story that he’s made the Tour but, despite having a good priority ranking at No. 13, he’ll probably be more pauper than the second coming of the King.
