2024 Fantasy Outlook
Last season was Thielen's first in Carolina, following a pair of 700-yard seasons his final two years in Minnesota. Going from Kirk Cousins to Bryce Young was a downgrade in quarterback play, but that didn't stop Thielen from turning back the clock in his age-33 campaign, especially early in the year. He averaged 8.1 catches for 83.0 yards on 10.0 targets over the first seven weeks, scoring four TDs in the process. After that, Thielen was still Carolina's most targeted receiver but to a much lesser extent, averaging 4.6 catches for 43.3 yards on 6.7 targets (with nary a touchdown). During the offseason, the Panthers added WRs Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette, making Thielen highly unlikely to match last year's total of 137 targets even if he's still Young's security blanket for short passes under new coach Dave Canales. Evaluating playing future
Thielen said Monday he intents to evaluate his potential playing future now that Carolina's regular season has concluded, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Thielen said he's currently leaning a certain direction but isn't ready to reveal his thoughts. The 34-year-old veteran has one year remaining on his contract with the Panthers, though Carolina has a potential out this offseason with only $5 million in dead cap. Still, Thielen was again one of Bryce Young's most trusted targets in the passing game during the 2024 campaign, in which he compiled a 48-615-5 line on 62 targets, despite suiting up for just 10 games. If Thielen decides to continue his NFL career, it would seem in the best interest of both sides for him to stick with the Panthers.

Thielen scored 30 TDs his final three seasons in Minnesota, but only six last year as his per-game averages dropped to 4.1 catches for 42.1 yards. His 6.7 YPT was easily a career low, and he now heads to Carolina on a three-year, $25 million contract ($14 million guaranteed) to give No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young an experience receiver to target. It's a situation that assures Thielen of a starting job and at least a handful of targets per game, but a big rebound is unlikely as he enters his age-33 season relying on a 22-year-old QB and a new coaching staff. Any value might be limited to PPR leagues, as the Panthers don't have much else in terms of quality targets -- the other "top" options are DJ Chark, second-round pick Jonathan Mingo, Terrace Marshall and TE Hayden Hurst.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Hoping to return Week 12
Thielen and coach Dave Canales both expressed optimism Monday that the wide receiver would be available for Week 12 against the Chiefs, per Kassidy Hill of the Panthers' official site, and Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer adds that Thielen has gained medical clearance to play.
ANALYSIS
Thielen logged a limited practice Wednesday, marking another step in his progress as he looks to return for his first action since Week 3. Carolina's passing game has struggled all season, and while quarterback Bryce Young still isn't living up to expectations as the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, he at least showed strong chemistry with Thielen last season. Thielen led the Panthers with 1,014 receiving yards in 2023 while no teammate had more than 525.
