2024 Fantasy Outlook
Rattler was the third selection of the Saints in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he's likely in the cards for the team's future plans at quarterback. However, the fifth-round pick will immediately contend for the backup role behind starting signal-caller Derek Carr. With Jameis Winston gone to Cleveland, Rattler will contend with journeyman Nathan Peterman and 2021 fourth-round pick Jake Haener, the latter of whom has yet to make his NFL debut. Rattler started his collegiate career with high expectations at Oklahoma before losing his job to Caleb Williams in 2021, and he finished with a 19:8 TD:INT at South Carolina in 2023. Latest Fantasy Rumors
Even split with Haener on Wednesday
Rattler split first-team practice reps Wednesday with Jake Haener, and interim head coach Mike Triplett said the Saints won't make a decision on a starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Commanders until the end of the week, according to Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football.
ANALYSIS
While Derek Carr hasn't been ruled out despite dealing with a fractured left hand and being in concussion protocol, it's likely that one of the two backups will be tabbed as the starter for Week 15. Rattler seemed to have ceded the top spot behind Carr to Haener, as Haener was dressed as the backup in Week 14 while Rattler was the emergency third quarterback, so it's encouraging that they are working in an even split to begin the week of preparation. Rattler started all three games that Carr missed earlier this season due to an oblique injury.
