2024 Fantasy Outlook
Surtain has had a strong start to his career with the Broncos since being selected ninth overall in the 2021 Draft, making back-to-back Pro Bowls in the last two seasons. The 24-year-old cornerback has amassed seven interceptions and 36 pass defenses in his first 50 games with Denver, cementing himself as one of the NFL's star defensive backs. The Broncos wisely picked up the fifth-year option on Surtain's rookie contract, securing his role with through the 2025 season. The Alabama product should continue to be a solid IDP option in his fourth season as Denver's top cover corner. Read Past Outlooks

2022
2021
Surtain enters his third campaign after an impressive start to his young career with Denver. In 2022, the 23-year-old cornerback logged 60 tackles to go with 10 passes defended, two interceptions and one forced fumble in 17 games. As one of the league's rising stars, Surtain should continue to be a key cog in the Broncos' defensive backfield in 2023. The addition of new head coach Sean Payton should make Denver more competitive on offense. If other teams are forced to throw the ball more against Denver's defense, the 2021 first-rounder could see more opportunities to make plays this season.

Gets lucrative extension
The four-year, $96 million extension Surtain inked with the Broncos on Wednesday includes $77.5 million in guaranteed money, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The $24 million annual average on Surtain's new contract makes him the highest-paid defensive back in the league. The ninth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Surtain earned All-Pro honors in 2022 and has been named to the Pro Bowl both of the last two seasons. The Broncos' decision to lock Surtain in on an extension with two years still remaining on his rookie contract was thought to be at least partly preemptive, considering fellow star cornerback Sauce Gardner could drive up the market price for the position when he's due for his own extension next offseason.
