2024 Fantasy Outlook
Penix was the surprise pick of this year’s draft. Not necessarily because he went in the top 10, but because it was the Falcons who drafted him eighth overall. Atlanta signed Kirk Cousins to a four-year deal with $100 million guaranteed in March, which means Penix is headed to the bench. The left-hander has a cannon for an arm, the strongest in this year’s draft, and is an accurate downfield passer who also consistently hits tight windows. While the 6-2 Penix is skilled at working through progressions, he at times was inaccurate on intermediate targets because he threw a beat late and lacked touch. The biggest knock, though, is his medical history -- season-ending injuries to both shoulders and two ACL tears in his right knee at Indiana before transferring to Washington. Despite the injuries, he’s still “functionally mobile” and was sacked just 32 times on more than 1,700 dropbacks. At Washington, he led the nation in passing yards per game each of the last two seasons. In Atlanta, he’s the backup, but the 36-year-old Cousins is coming off a midseason Achilles injury and, unlike Penix, doesn’t have a great arm. If Penix gets a shot, he’ll have quality weapons in RB Bijan Robinson, WR Drake London and TE Kyle Pitts. Stay Tuned. Read Past Outlooks

Remains backup for Week 15
Head coach Raheem Morris said Monday that Penix will remain the backup to starting quarterback Kirk Cousins for Week 15, Terrin Waack of the team's official site reports. "Kirk is our quarterback. Kirk is still going to lead us," Morris said.
ANALYSIS
Atlanta has dropped four straight games to fall to 6-7, and Cousins' struggles have led to a discussion about a change under center. In those four losses, the veteran quarterback completed just 62.4 percent of his passes for 7.6 yards per attempt and a 0:8 TD:INT while also taking eight sacks. Cousins' track record and sizable contract may not be enough to save him if he has another poor showing against a reeling Raiders squad Monday. Penix, the eighth overall pick in April's draft, has made just two brief mop-up appearances through the first 14 weeks of the regular season but looked composed during his lone preseason outing, completing nine of 16 pass attempts for 104 yards.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Still practicing as backup
Penix is still working as the No. 2 quarterback in practice, Albert Breer of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Kirk Cousins has struggled lately, throwing zero touchdowns across his last four games with eight interceptions. As a result, speculation has ramped up that Atlanta could turn to Penix under center. Coach Raheem Morris has publicly backed Cousins however, and the team's practice reps suggest that the rookie is still viewed as the backup.
