2024 Fantasy Outlook
Darren Waller's retirement in the offseason cracked open a door for Cager to potentially compete for increased playing time in 2024, as neither third-year tight end Daniel Bellinger nor rookie Theo Johnson have a stranglehold on the starting role. However, multiple injuries during training camp have limited Cager's ability to make an impression and may impact his chance of making the roster altogether. If he does avoid getting cut, Cager seems certain to be third on the pecking order behind Bellinger and Johnson, at least at the start of the campaign. Read Past Outlooks
Let go with injury settlement
The Giants cut Cager (undisclosed) from the practice squad injured list Tuesday with an injury settlement, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cager was placed on the Giants' practice squad injured list Sept. 24 due to an unspecified injury. With the injury settlement, he'll be able to join a team in need of tight end depth once healthy. Cager played in 11 regular-season games for the Giants in 2023 and finished with four catches (on five targets) for 36 yards and one touchdown.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Cager bounced between the Giants' practice squad and active roster after signing with the team last October, ending with 13 catches for 118 yards and a TD over six contests. Much of that production came when New York rested its starters in Week 18 and Cager caught eight passes for 69 yards. The Giants signed Darren Waller in the offseason and are still high on second-year TE Daniel Bellinger, so Cager is unlikely to see more than a bit role if he makes the initial roster.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could step up with Waller done
Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic lists Cager as a candidate to see more targets following Darren Waller's retirement, along with Daniel Bellinger and Theo Johnson.
ANALYSIS
Bellinger and Johnson are the two obvious candidates to fill the gap at tight end created by Waller's retirement, but Cager has also been getting frequent opportunities throughout OTAs and minicamp. Cager began his NFL career as a wide receiver but converted to tight end in 2022. Bellinger has just 523 yards and two touchdowns through two seasons, while Johnson is a rookie fourth-round pick, so the 6-foot-5 Cager has a chance to emerge as the best pass catcher out of the group.
