2024 Fantasy Outlook
David returned to the Bucs on a one-year, $9 million deal this offseason following one of his best campaigns yet in 2023. The 34-year-old's 134 tackles were his best showing in that category since 2015, while his 4.5 sacks marked his most prolific contribution since 2016. Tampa Bay's decision to bring back the multi-time Pro Bowler despite his advanced age isn't much of a surprise - David's presence figures to be more important than ever in 2024, now that both Shaquil Barrett and Devin White have moved on and the inexperienced YaYa Diaby and K.J. Britt are set to replace them. Read Past Outlooks
Upgrades to full practice Thursday
David (knee) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
David was limited in Wednesday's walkthrough due to a knee injury he likely picked up during the Buccaneers' Week 18 win over the Saints, during which he played every defensive snap and finished with nine tackles (four solo) and one pass defense. Unless he suffers a setback over the next few days, David should be good to go against the Commanders in Sunday's NFC wild-card round clash. David posted 122 combines tackles in 17 regular-season games, which is the 11th time in his 13-year NFL career that he has recorded at least 100 tackles in a season.

Entering his 12th NFL season, David remains a reliable IDP asset. His 123 tackles last year were his most since 2019 and left him just one behind Devin White for the team lead, and he played more than 1,000 snaps for the third time in the last four seasons. Workload could be an issue for the 33-year-old in 2023, however. Tampa Bay spent a fifth-round pick on SirVocea Dennis, whose instincts make him an ideal player to apprentice with the veteran linebacker. If the team elects to begin the transition this year, David's volume would suffer even if his per-play efficiency remains consistent.

GM 'on call' for contract talks
Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said Friday he'd be "on call" throughout the weekend partly to be available to engage in contract discussions regarding David, a pending unrestricted free agent, Jenna Laine of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
David is the Buccaneers' longest-tenured player at 12 seasons, and he's already indicated he'd love to retire as a member of the team that drafted him with a second-round pick back in 2012. Helping David's cause for a return is the fact his 134 tackles and 4.5 sacks a season ago were his most since 2015 and 2016, respectively.
