2024 Fantasy Outlook
There was real belief among pundits that Mack could fall victim to the Chargers' salary cap woes, but the team opted to restructure the veteran defender's contract to keep him around for another season. Mack's 17 sack total last season certainly look stellar, but it's a bit of a misleading mark given that he only registered a sack in eight games which includes a six-sack outing against a beleaguered Raiders offensive line in Week 6. The 33-year-old will need to once again be an electric force off the edge to make up for a young and unproven secondary, although there's reason to believe Mack could be even more consistently disruptive, provided teammate Joey Bosa is finally able to stay healthy. Not certain about returning
Mack said Sunday that he was unsure about his football future, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mack is set to be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career and will also be considering retirement this offseason. Although Rhim relays that the 33-year-old believes the Chargers are his best chance to win, Mack also stated, "I don't know if I'm going to play football moving forward, so there's some things I got to talk through with my wife, spend some time with my kids and try not to make a rash decision after a loss." Mack played in 16 regular-season games and dealt with a groin injury for multiple weeks in November, which may have impacted his ability to stay on the field -- he played just 582 snaps on defense, his lowest number since 2021 when he suited up just seven times for the Bears.

Acquired from the Bears last offseason, Mack didn't make as significant of an impact as the Chargers might have hoped. However, much of that had to do with the absence of stalwart linebacker Joey Bosa, who missed 12 games due to a groin injury. It's been four seasons since Mack has registered double-digit sacks but if Mack and Bosa can stay healthy for the majority of the season, the duo should provide the team's defense with a potent pass-rushing combo in 2023.

Could hang up cleats
Mack isn't sure if he will continue playing in 2025, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 33-year-old edge rusher has had an impressive career, recording 107.5 sacks in 167 NFL games across 11 seasons, including 6.0 sacks for the Chargers in 2024. Mack will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason for the first time, but if he does elect to keep playing, a return to Los Angeles seems more likely than signing with a new organization as he hunts for his first Super Bowl ring. "As long as Justin Herbert is your quarterback. You got [safety] Derwin James and all these guys that love the game of football. And Jim Harbaugh coaching?" Mack said this weekend after a wild-card loss to the Texans. "You know you always have a chance to win. Yeah, that's a no-brainer."
