John Kelly

Despite offseason praise from head coach Sean McVay, Kelly is likely going to be hard pressed to receive meaningful opportunities for the Rams again in 2020. Los Angeles selected running back Cam Akers in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and the Rams still have veteran Malcolm Brown and last year's third-round selection Darrell Henderson on roster. As it stands, Kelly is fourth on the running back depth chart, and it will likely take an injury for Kelly to gain fantasy value this year.

It was a quiet NFL debut for Kelly, as he was limited to just 27 carries and three targets over 50 offensive snaps during the final four games of the regular season. It's also telling that the organization brought in C.J. Anderson last year when Todd Gurley suffered a knee injury, and then Los Angeles traded up to select Darrell Henderson in the third round this spring. Additionally, Kelly only played 30 snaps on special teams, so his current fantasy outlook appears bleak.

Kelly (5-9, 216 pounds) comes out of Tennessee having proved capable as an every-down back who can both run through the tackles and wiggle downfield for passes. Falling to the sixth round in one of the deepest class of running backs we've seen in years, his pedigree simply doesn't reflect his skill level. With that said, opportunity is king, and there likely won't be much work leftover in Los Angeles as long as he's No. 3 on the depth chart behind 2017 All-Pro Todd Gurley and incumbent No. 2 Malcolm Brown. Kelly is thus best left on the waiver wire, but keep him in mind in case the injury bug bites the Rams backfield.
