2024 Fantasy Outlook
The Patriots drafted Ryland in the fourth round last year and then stuck with him through a disastrous rookie campaign. He led the league in missed field goals (nine) despite ranking t-27th in attempts (25), with the only semi-positive being decent work on PATs (24 of 25). Ryland went two of four from 50-plus yards and five of 10 from 40-49 yards, also missing two kicks inside of 40. The Patriots likely will bring in some competition before training camp, and even if they don't, Ryland doesn't figure to offer much fantasy value as part of a rebuilding team that will start either Jacoby Brissett or a rookie at quarterback. Has extra-point attempt blocked
Ryland connected on a 28-yard field-goal attempt but missed his lone extra-point try during Saturday's 13-9 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Ryland didn't have a kicking attempt until the third quarter, when the Cardinals finished a 13-play drive with a one-yard touchdown pass from Kyler Murray to Trey McBride. Unfortunately for Ryland his extra-point attempt was blocked, which kept the deficit at four points. He converted on a 28-yard chip shot early in the fourth quarter, but he didn't kick another field goal, as the Cardinals were in need of a touchdown to take the lead. It's unclear whether Ryland will serve as Arizona's kicker for the regular-season finale against San Francisco since Matt Prater (knee) has been designated to return from injured reserve.

Juan Carlos Blanco examines the complex Week 18 NFL injury landscape and examines the latest news as of early Sunday morning.
A comprehensive Sunday morning Week 16 injury rundown from RotoWire's Juan Carlos Blanco on the status of key players during the thick of the fantasy postseason.
2023 Fantasy Outlook
The Patriots already had an accurate, veteran kicker in Nick Folk, but that didn't stop them from using a fourth-round pick on Ryland, who presumably will allow the team to try more long-distance kicks. Ryland made 77.3 percent of FGAs and 97.3 percent of PATs in five seasons between Eastern Michigan and Maryland, with a strong upward trend after struggling his first two years. The Patriots ended up trading Folk to Tennessee at the end of August, locking in Ryland as their Week 1 kicker.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could fill in for Prater in Week 5
Ryland could get a chance to kick for the Cardinals in Week 5 against the 49ers, as he signed with Arizona's practice squad Wednesday while Matt Prater didn't practice due to a knee injury, per Zach Gershman of the Cardinals' official site.
ANALYSIS
Prater still has a few days to recover, but if he remains unavailable due to the knee injury, Ryland would be in line to be elevated to the active roster before Sunday's game against the 49ers. Ryland was a fourth-round pick of the Patriots in the 2023 NFL Draft, but the team quickly lost patience with the young kicker after he made only 16 of 25 field-goal attempts as a rookie.
