Caleb Williams

23-Year-Old QuarterbackQB
Chicago Bears
2024 Fantasy Outlook
The No. 1 pick in this year’s draft, Williams heads to the Bears as the franchise quarterback. The same was expected of Justin Fields three years ago, but Fields, who was traded to Pittsburgh in March, never had the talent with which the Bears have surrounded Williams. Eight picks after Williams, the Bears drafted Rome Odunze, a 6-3 wideout with 4.45 speed. He joins holdover DJ Moore and trade acquisition Keenan Allen, giving the Bears one of the league’s better WR rooms. The Bears also signed D’Andre Swift, a good pass catcher out of the backfield, and return TE Cole Kmet, who had 11 red-zone TD receptions the last two seasons (second among TEs to Travis Kelce). New offensive coordinator Shane Waldron didn’t exactly turn heads as Seattle’s OC the last few years, but it should go better than what the Bears had last season. At 6-1, 215, Williams can torch defenses from the pocket with his elite arm and also has the mobility to make plays outside the pocket, throwing with nearly as much accuracy and velocity on the move. If Williams has a fault, it’s that he sometimes holds the ball too long in hopes of a big play, thereby inviting trouble. Even then, though, his scrambling ability adds to his fantasy upside. Chicago is the only franchise without a 4,000-yard passer in its history. Williams should finally change that. Read Past Outlooks

Pads stats late in blowout loss
QBChicago Bears
December 8, 2024
Williams completed 17 of 23 pass attempts for 134 yards and two touchdowns while rushing four times for 27 yards with a fumble in Sunday's 38-13 defeat to San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Williams and Chicago's offense were nearly invisible Sunday, netting just four yards over five drives (all of which ended in a punt) in the first half. The first-overall pick from this year's draft was able to pad his stats out of the break with a pair of touchdown throws that never threatened the 49ers' lead. On the bright side, Williams has now thrown seven touchdowns over his last three contests after failing to generate one over his previous four appearances. Things won't get any easier for the Bears as they prepare to visit the Vikings next Monday.

Coaching change after debacle
QBChicago Bears
December 1, 2024
Williams will have a new head coach for the remainder of the season, as the Bears promoted Thomas Brown to interim head coach and relieved Matt Eberflus of his duties Friday.
ANALYSIS
Eberflus' firing comes one day after the coach and quarterback were both complacent in mismanaging the clock down the stretch of Thursday's 23-20 loss to the Lions. Williams took a sack to knock the Bears out of field-goal range with 33 seconds left, and Eberflus' decision not to take the team's final timeout at that point was compounded by Williams' curious decision to spend valuable time calling an audible at the line, which led to the clock expiring during Chicago's next play. The Bears will look to find a spark under Brown after dropping their last six games under Eberflus to fall to 4-8.
