Ty Chandler

26-Year-Old Running BackRB
Minnesota Vikings
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Chandler had a big game against Cincinnati in Week 15 last year, turning 23 carries into 132 yards and one touchdown, and with that showing the 2022 fifth-round pick may have bought himself a ticket to back up Aaron Jones this upcoming season. Chandler is a bit thinner than most running backs (5-11, 204) and doesn't have great vision or instincts, but his 4.38 speed and decent hands make him a useful player all the same. It won't be surprising if he has a significant role from the jump this year, considering Jones has a lengthy track record of injuries -- especially to his right knee -- and often ceded a lot of work to other backs during his time in Green Bay. The competition for roles behind Jones is far from fierce, with Chandler joined by a trio of running backs (Kene Nwangwu, Myles Gaskin, DeWayne McBride) that had five total carries last year. Set to play in wild-card contest
RBMinnesota Vikings
January 11, 2025
Chandler (illness) does not have an injury designation for Monday's wild-card matchup versus the Rams, Craig Peters of the Vikings' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Chandler sat out Friday's practice due to an ailment, but he returned to practice in full Saturday and doesn't have an injury designation for Monday's game. No. 1 RB Aaron Jones (foot) is also without an injury designation for the wild-card contest, and Cam Akers (illness) is expected to suit up despite being deemed questionable, per Alec Lewis of The Athletic, so Chandler will likely work as Minnesota's No. 3 running back and primary kick returner.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Chandler, a 2022 fifth-round pick, is an enticing prospect with a 4.38 40 but barely saw the field last season. He had six carries on 12 snaps (no targets). That could change this year after Dalvin Cook was released in June. Alexander Mattison is the new starter, and Chandler will compete with Kene Nwangwu and Myles Gaskin for backup snaps. Perhaps that opens the door for Chandler to be the main backup to Mattison.
A fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Chandler had four modestly productive seasons at Tennessee, leading the team in rushing in 2018 and 2019 before transferring to North Carolina for a fifth year in 2021. He flourished with the Tar Heels, rushing 182 times for 1,092 yards (6.0 YPC) and 13 touchdowns and hauling in 15 of 17 targets for 207 yards and another score. In the pros, Chandler's 4.38 speed could allow him to succeed in the right situation. However, he'll be stuck behind clear No. 1 running back Dalvin Cook in Minnesota, while backups Alexander Mattison and Kene Nwangwu both are more established.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Chance to be RB1 after bye
RBMinnesota Vikings
October 6, 2024
Chandler could be atop Minnesota's running back depth chart in Week 7 against the Lions, as Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports that Aaron Jones was ruled out of Sunday's 23-17 win over the Jets due to a hip injury.
ANALYSIS
Jones will have a chance to heal during Minnesota's Week 6 bye, but if that doesn't provide enough time for him to regain health, Chandler would take over atop the depth chart when the Vikings return to game action. Chandler struggled to find running room after Jones' first-half injury, finishing the Week 5 win with 14 carries for 30 yards.
