Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
The veteran running back suited up for all but one of Buffalo's games last season, getting a Week 18 rest, but Murray saw double-digit carries only twice and posted a career-low 3.8 yards per carry. He disappeared from the game plan almost entirely after Joe Brady took the reins of the offense, and his lackluster 2023 has kept him on the free-agent market through the draft. Now 34 years old, Murray might get the call again if a team gets hit hard by injuries in its backfield, but his playing days could be coming to a close. Read Past Outlooks
Tails off at season's end
Murray finished the season with 79 carries for 300 yards and two touchdowns plus 17 catches (on 22 targets) for 119 yards in 16 regular-season games.
ANALYSIS
Murray saw some run as the No. 2 back for a good stretch of the season, and it led to some nice results, with him peaking on a 6-68-1 line in Week 12. After the team's bye in Week 13, however, Murray saw only nine carries the entire remainder of the season. While he suited up in the playoffs, he didn't see a single carry. Ty Johnson clearly passed Murray in the pecking order for the stretch run. Murray turned 34 last month, and while he still ran with some power and proved to be a nice veteran asset for the Bills as an complement to James Cook, he probably doesn't have much more football left in his fine career.

The Bills likely won't prioritize Murray in their 2023 offense, but they handed him just enough guaranteed money to make his roster spot relatively safe, even as an RB3 behind James Cook and Damien Harris. As long as he makes the roster, though, Murray would be surprisingly close to mainstream fantasy relevance. Cook has potential workload limitations due to his light frame, while Harris could have limitations due to recurring hamstring issues. Hines, meanwhile, is just a hurry-up back and returner. The Bills gave Murray more than $800,000 guaranteed on his one-year deal, so they might have targeted him because they specifically wanted someone with his big-back traits to complement the smaller, previously mentioned trio. Murray might also be a better passing-down back than Harris, though likely the lesser runner at this point in their respective careers.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May not stick in Buffalo
Murray could be cut or traded by the Bills before the start of the season, Ryan O'Halloran of The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran running back was just signed in May, but he joined a crowded backfield that has James Cook and Damien Harris seemingly set as the top two options, with Nyheim Hines and undrafted free agent Jordan Mims also fighting for backup jobs. If Murray shows in training camp that he still has something to offer, he could wind up getting flipped to a team that's in bigger need of depth in exchange for a late-round pick.
