Richard Rodgers

Rodgers missed just one game in his four years with Aaron Rodgers yet surpassed 275 yards in just one of those seasons. Now he'll back up Zach Ertz and quite possibly second-round pick Dallas Goedert, who has impressed since joining the club.

The Packers possessed two productive "Rodgers" in 2015 when Richard saw 85 targets and scored eight touchdowns, but he took a back seat to fellow tight end Jared Cook last season. Even with Cook missing six games due to injury, Rodgers' production was essentially cut in half. Although Cook departed Green Bay during the offseason, he was replaced by another starting-caliber tight end in Martellus Bennett, so Rodgers' role will likely look a lot like it did last year. He could be even less productive, in fact, with established tight end Lance Kendricks also added to the mix this offseason.

Rodgers saw his targets increase by 55 last year over his rookie season, benefiting from Jordy Nelson's season-ending injury. Not that he made the most of those opportunities, though. His YPT ranked 23rd, his YPC 25th and outside of Week 13's 146 yards thanks to a 61-yard Hail Mary, Rodgers had more than 50 yards once. He had fewer than 35 yards 12 times. He's not fast (4.87 40), but at 6-4, 257, Rodgers kept his fantasy value somewhat afloat with seven red-zone TDs on 14 targets. Perhaps that's why the Packers signed Jared Cook, who figures to cut into Rodgers' targets significantly, as does the return of Nelson. Cook had foot surgery in June, but the procedure was considered minor. Like all Packers receivers, the biggest appeal with Rodgers is that he has Aaron Rodgers throwing to him.

Rodgers spent his rookie season backing up Andrew Quarless but could push for the starting job this year. Quarless failed to capitalize on the opportunity to become the fourth option in a great passing offense last season and ended up primarily a blocker. Rodgers, who had 13 receptions through Week 15, made good progress developing his raw skills, finishing with 12 receptions in the last four games, including the playoffs. Like Quarless, Rodgers is 6-4, but he's slower with only average speed for a tight end (4.87 40). Rodgers, though, could be used in the slot more often this year, with Quarless kept in to block. He has good hands and athleticism, but targets could be scarce in an offense with plenty of receiving options. Still, playing with the league's best quarterback in an attack that could use a chain-moving, possession-receiving tight end is an enviable prospect.

A third-round pick in this year's draft, Rodgers is an athletic receiver who could be used in the slot more than at tight end. He's 6-4, 245, with decent speed and good hands. He's drawn comparisons to Jermichael Finley and has a lot of potential. But according to scouts, he's more athlete than football player at this point, and he likely won't push starter Andrew Quarless.
