Let go from practice squad
The Jets released Fales from the practice squad Wednesday, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Jets are satisfied with the three quarterbacks they have on the active roster, so they're moving on from Fales, who suited up in two games for the team in 2019. The 30-year-old signal-caller likely tops out as a practice squad player at this point in his career.

Fales will compete with rookie fourth-rounder James Morgan for the right to back up Sam Darnold. Coach Adam Gas values the 29-year-old's familiarity with his system, but Fales has just 48 passes' worth of regular-season NFL experience under his belt. Even as far as backup quarterbacks go, Fales ranks near the bottom of the list.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Roster spot in jeopardy
The signing of Joe Flacco (neck), reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN, will significantly diminish Fales' chances of making the season-opening roster.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old never had much roster security since re-signing a one-year, $910,000 deal in March, but to this point he was still the expected favorite for the backup job. Flacco isn't expected to be fully healthy until mid-September, but the Jets could opt to take the longer-term outlook and roll with rookie fourth-round pick James Morgan in the backup role until Flacco is healthy. Fales' lack of NFL game experience (43 career pass attempts) was likely a factor as the team sought out a more experienced veteran option to work behind Sam Darnold.
