Past Fantasy Outlooks
2013
2012
Fales doesn't run the ball at all and his otherwise stellar 2012 season saw its fantasy value hindered by his minus-139 rushing yards, but if he could scramble a bit more and avoid some sacks this year, Fales could be worth ranking even higher. He might be the nation's best pure passer, as he threw for 4,193 yards (9.3 YPA), 33 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 13 games last year. Outside of a tough matchup with Stanford, Fales ought to average around three passing touchdowns per game this year, thanks in no small part to his excellent wideout trio of Noel Grigsby, Chandler Jones and Jabari Carr, who combined for 2,637 yards and 24 touchdowns last year.
Fales comes to San Jose State a junior college transfer without much of a record, but he reportedly represented himself well in the spring and is currently the favorite to emerge as San Jose State's replacement for Matt Faulkner, who graduated in the offseason. If Fales does prove to be even slightly competent he could turn into a surprisingly decent fantasy option, as the San Jose State offense threw the ball 39.9 times per game last year, and receivers Noel Grigsby, Chandler Jones and Jabari Carr are a fairly talented bunch. That's not even mentioning Ryan Otten, who is one of the country's most dangerous tight ends.
