ANALYSIS
McDougald started Sunday's game against the Seahawks and played 40 of the team's 54 defensive snaps. The 10-year veteran appeared in seven games with the Jets last season before injuring his shoulder. He should garner some interest from teams in search of depth in their secondary.

McDougald started 15 games for the Seahawks last year, and he registered 70 tackles. The IDP outlook for safeties in Seattle's scheme is limited, as tackle hogs Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright steal the thunder, but McDougald should remain the Seahawks' starting strong safety next to Quandre Diggs in 2020.
The team needed a lot out of McDougald after Kam Chancellor suffered a career-ending neck injury and Earl Thomas broke his leg in Week 4, and he delivered. McDougald was a full-time starter, and he was dependable both in coverage and as a physical run-stopper. Seattle will keep McDougald in the lineup, likely alongside Tedric Thompson, but possibly next to second-round pick Marqise Brown. McDougald's IDP worth is still limited, as he totaled just 78 tackles and nine pass breakups a year ago.
Heading into his sixth season, McDougald is poised for a hefty workload with Kam Chancellor (neck) opting for retirement and Earl Thomas asking for a trade. As such, McDougald is set to be the top safety in the Seahawks defense. The 27-year-old made 75 tackles as the No. 3 safety in 2017, benefiting from Chancellor missing seven games. Because one (and maybe both) of Chancellor and Thomas are out of the picture, McDougald is a valued sleeper in 2018.
McDougald will provide veteran depth at safety this year for the Seahawks. Last season, he had a career-high 91 tackles (79 solo) in 16 starts for Tampa Bay. The Seahawks also drafted a couple safeties, but McDougald figures to be the first off the bench as the rookies develop.
A trendy breakout IDP candidate a year ago, McDougald probably didn't quite reach the heights some hoped for, but he still did well for himself and should do even better in 2016, his second year as starter. His 87 tackles (67 solo) and two interceptions might seem underwhelming at a glance, but they're very good numbers for a 893-snap play count. A player in McDougald's position will usually make a run at 1,000 snaps, in which case his production from last year would predict an outcome of around 100 tackles. Improvements to the Tampa Bay pass rush can only help him.
McDougald will compete with Chris Conte, D.J. Swearinger and Major Wright for a starting safety spot.
