Neck
July 21, 2020
Jones has not yet undergone his needed neck surgery due to the COVID-19 pandemic and does not plan to play in 2020, Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post reports.
ANALYSIS
"If I play again is still in the air, but you know I feel like I got in and did everything I needed to do," Jones said. The 32-year-old was limited to four games in 2019 and released by the Dolphins earlier this offseason. He'll need to undergo neck surgery before being able to kick off what could be a lengthy recovery process, making the 2021 campaign likely his earliest possible date to return, should he choose to. If Jones instead opts to call it a career, he'll retire as second in Miami team history in terms of both career tackles and defensive touchdowns.

Jones' ambiguous standing with Miami makes him more of a hold than a buy or sell, but he's probably too good to bench even if the Dolphins want to shift 2018 first-round pick Minkah Fitzpatrick to a full-time safety role next to T.J. McDonald. While injury and a feud with coach Adam Gase limited his playing time last season, Jones remained highly productive, nearing a 90-tackle pace while earning strong coverage marks at less than 100 percent health. February shoulder surgery bears monitoring, but for all his risks, no DB poses more cost-adjusted IDP upside.
Safeties aren't supposed to put up the numbers Jones has over the last three years. Not only has he reliably produced at a 130-tackle pace, he's also been a standout playmaker with eight interceptions and four fumble recoveries in 38 games, returning four of those for touchdowns. After just turning 30 in February, it's difficult to see why Jones would fall off within the next couple years. Keanu Neal and Landon Collins are closing in, but Jones probably holds the throne for now.
Jones has been one of the most valuable IDPs over the last five years, totaling 467 tackles in 66 games -- a rate of more than 110 tackles per 16-game stretch. He also has six sacks, 14 interceptions and three touchdowns over that span, providing high-upside playmaking stats in addition to the floor-setting tackle production. The only blemish in Jones' IDP profile is a rotator cuff tear that ended his 2016 season after six games, but the injury shouldn't be a factor moving forward after the Dolphins gave him a five-year, $60 million contract extension this spring.
Jones is the clearly top IDP among defensive backs heading into 2016. He combines elite tackle production with above average playmaking abilities, making him a candidate to rank as a leader both for tackles and interceptions at DB every year. He has 322 tackles in his last 2,949 snaps, which projects to an outstanding 109 per 1,000 snaps. It's rare to see that kind of elite production withstand the test of time to that degree. When you throw in his nine interceptions and three touchdowns over that span, the door slams shut on any debate over who the best DB IDP is.
Jones was limited to 12 games last season because of a suspension for performance-enhancing substances, but he predictably provided adequate IDP production when on the field. Since 2012, Jones has averaged 102 tackles, one sack and three interceptions per 16 games. It should be more of the same this season, as the Dolphins did not add any safeties to pose a threat to Jones' snaps, giving him a high floor. And the arrival of Ndamukong Suh should boost the pass rush, thus improving Jones' interception potential.
Jones is coming off his second straight successful season, following up a 94-tackle, four-interception 2012 effort with 107 tackles (84 solo), 1.5 sacks and an interception returned for a touchdown in 2013. It would seem as if he's arrived as one of the league's better IDP options at safety, and he heads into 2014 as the best player at the position in Miami. The Dolphins' linebackers were not very effective in 2013, so Jones might continue doing a fair amount of cleanup work this year, though his tackle volume might take a step back since Miami might not play more than 1,100 defensive snaps for the second year in a row. In any case, he'll sit out the first four games of the upcoming season for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.
Jones finished fourth on the team in tackles in 2012, and will start at SS in the upcoming season for the Dolphins.
Expected to be the Dolphins starter at free safety. Jones has shown a knack for finding the football during practice and could be a sneaky pick in deep IDP leagues.
Slated once again to start the season as a backup to Chris Clemons, Jones will only see playing time in the event of injury or possibly in some nickel situations.
Jones, sixth-round pick this season, should be the backup to Chris Clemons at Safety to enter the season.

Another Dolphin could be moved
SMiami Dolphins
October 28, 2019
Jones is a candidate to be moved by the Dolphins due to his contract situation, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The Dolphins have been cleaning house of late, so they might as well try to unload a problematic contract. Jones is great from an IDP/fantasy perspective, but considering he's only played in three of six games this season and that he's due five figures through the 2022 campaign, it makes sense to move him as part of the rebuild.
