Donte Jackson

28-Year-Old CornerbackCB
Pittsburgh Steelers
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Jackson spent the first six years of his career in Carolina but was traded to the Steelers during the offseason as part of the trade that sent Diontae Johnson to the Panthers. Jackson appeared in all but one game last season and logged 59 tackles (49 solo), five pass defenses and a forced fumble. The Steelers parted ways with Patrick Peterson during the offseason, so Jackson should slot in as one of the team's top options at cornerback alongside second-year player Joey Porter in 2024. Jackson recorded a solo tackle and two pass breakups, including an interception, in Sunday's 32-13 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
This was Jackson's third interception of the season, and he sits just one interception shy of the career best he posted as a rookie in 2018. The 2018 second-round pick has just 18 sacks (12 solo) through six games, so his weekly floor remains low.

A long-time starter at cornerback for the Panthers, Jackson endured an abbreviated 2022 campaign due to a torn Achilles suffered in November. The injury sidelined him after he tallied 35 tackles and two interceptions (one pick-six) in nine games. After restructuring his contract this offseason, Jackson is staying in Carolina in 2023, when new coordinator Ejiro Evero will take charge of the defense. Once he's healthy, Jackson figures to start opposite the team's top CB Jaycee Horn.
A groin injury ended Jackson's 2021 campaign prematurely, but he still managed 61 tackles, 10 passes defended and two interceptions in 12 games. That output - along with Jackson's decent previous three years - was enough for the Panthers to reward him a three-year contract this offseason. In remaining in Carolina, Jackson should maintain his starting spot opposite Jaycee Horn and have ample opportunities to make plays.
Jackson enters the final year of his rookie contract after enduring a turbulent first three seasons as a pro. Last year, he posted a career-best 11 passes defended in just 14 games, nabbing three interceptions to go with his 34 stops. However, his inconsistencies led the Panthers to draft fellow cornerback Jaycee Horn tenth overall, giving them a new top option at the position. Horn's presence could take some pressure off Jackson, but the veteran speedster will need to be more steady to stave off competition from A.J. Bouye, Rashaan Melvin and Troy Pride for his starting job this term.
A second-round pick in 2018, Jackson proved a tantalizing talent through his first two seasons, with his second proving more frustrating than the first. Although he dealt with a groin issue last term, Jackson finished with 40 tackles, eight passes defended, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries in 13 games (10 starts). However, those appearances came with a number of big plays allowed, raising concern as Carolina prepares to make Jackson its top cornerback this season following the departure of former No. 1 James Bradberry. Such a role would give Jackson more opportunities to make plays, but the mercurial track star is yet to prove he can stand up to the test.
A second-round pick last year, Jackson made an immediate impact as a rookie. Not only did he start all 16 games, but he also led the Panthers in interceptions and finished fifth in tackles. Overall, he made 74 stops and four picks on nine passes defended, while also notching a sack and forced fumble. With blazing speed, Jackson added excitement to Carolina's secondary even though he endured his share of first-year inconsistencies. Looking ahead to his second season, however, more will be expected of Jackson as he grows in his starting role. If his debut campaign is any indication, that could mean more fireworks from the young cornerback.
Jackson was drafted in the second round of April's draft out of LSU and will likely begin the season as a nickel/dime cornerback for Carolina, but could easily earn a larger role among a relatively inexperienced position group.

Team open to trading him
CBCarolina Panthers
October 22, 2023
The Panthers are open to trading Jackson before the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
At 0-6, the Panthers are thinking long-term as 2023 first overall pick Bryce Young develops at quarterback. Jackson, who will turn 28 on Nov. 8, doesn't fit the team's timeline. The veteran cornerback has yet to record an interception in 2023, but he recorded multiple interceptions in each of his previous five NFL seasons, all with the Panthers.
