Grant, who turns 31 during the regular season, is coming back from a season lost due to a ruptured Achilles -- the second such injury he's dealt with during his NFL career. His bread-and-butter has been as a returner, but Grant was destined for a greater offensive role during camp in 2022 before the injury. Cut to this year and the Browns have added two new veteran pieces at wideout -- Elijah Moore and Marquise Goodwin -- and drafted Cedric Tillman (third round). If he's going to make the team, it will be as a returner. The Browns brought him along slowly early in camp, but Grant fielded kickoffs and noticed improved movement relative to his time in spring minicamp.
Grant is part of a revamped wide receiver group in Cleveland, but his main value comes as a return man. The 29-year-old returned a punt or kickoff for a touchdown in five of his six NFL seasons. Grading out as the third best punt returner in 2021 (per Pro Football Focus), Grant is expected to bolster the return game for the Browns, who ranked 22nd in return average on kickoffs and 28th on punts last year. As a receiver though, Grant is looking no better than the team's No. 5 wideout option entering the summer training season.
When healthy, Grant is one of the league's most explosive options in the return game and a fairly capable big-play threat on offense. However, he hasn't played a full season since 2017, and now Grant is facing the most competition for offensive touches that he's faced in his career. He's only on the fantasy radar in deep leagues that award points for return yardage.
Injuries have limited Grant to back-to-back 10-game seasons, though he did begin his career by playing all 32 games in his first two campaigns. His utility as a big-play threat didn't materialize in 2019, as Grant managed just 19 catches for 164 scoreless yards across 33 targets, but he did remain a consistent asset on special teams. A Week 11 kick-return score served as the fourth special-teams touchdown of Grant's career, and the 5-foot-7, 171-pounder has now put together two straight years with over 500 kick-return yards despite missing a combined 12 games in that span. He stands to compete with Isaiah Ford for snaps as Miami's No. 3 wideout.
The undersized Grant notched career-highs in catches (21), targets (34), and yards (268) while scoring two touchdowns during the third year of his career, in addition to doing most of his damage on kick and punt return duties with 763 total yards and two touchdowns in 2018. However, his season came to an end due to an Achilles' injury sustained Week 10. Though the Dolphins have a plethora big-play speedsters on the roster -- Grant, Kenny Stills, Brice Butler, Albert Wilson and Kenyan Drake all boast 40-yard dash times below 4.50 -- Grant's outstanding performance as a return man in 2018 will likely secure him a spot on the 53-man roster if he's able to recover from his injury without losing agility or speed.
A 2016 sixth-round pick, Grant was a quiet contributor to the Dolphins offense until flashing for a 4-107-1 stat line against the Chiefs in Week 16 last season. Grant played strong and physical at the point of catch last year, but is undeniably limited due to his 5-foot-7, 169-pound frame. Despite coming on down the stretch, Miami's crowded receiving room likely means that Grant will be relegated to a special teams/depth role entering 2018.
Active for all 16 games last fall, the 2016 sixth-rounder primarily served as a returner, averaging 23.1 yards on 19 kick returns and 8.3 yards on 20 punt runbacks. With Jarvis Landry, DeVante Parker and Kenny Stills entrenched at the top of the depth chart, Grant will compete with Leonte Carroo, Rashawn Scott, Isaiah Ford and Damore'ea Stringfellow for the final few spots at wide receiver.
Grant was the Dolphins' sixth round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. This was a surprise selection as the Dolphins already had Jarvis Landry and DeVante Parker on board and drafted Leonte Carroo in the third round. So why did Miami take Grant? Speed, speed, and more speed. Grant is small to say the least – 5-foot-6, 165 pounds – which makes him extremely elusive. The question of course will be, can his body withstand the pounding of the NFL? Only time will tell. Grant will be a danger to take the ball to the house whenever he catches it but will also be a danger to end up on injured reserve.

Grant will get a tryout with the Jets during this week's mandatory minicamp, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The 31-year-old hasn't played in the NFL since 2021, but Grant was a second-team All-Pro as a return man in in 2020 and 2021 and has two career kickoff returns for touchdowns. With the NFL making significant changes to the kickoff rules this season, Grant's skill set might have more utility again.
