2024 Fantasy Outlook
Winston was stuck as the back up in New Orleans the last couple years, but he impressed as the starter in 2021 -- 14/3 TD/INT -- before tearing an ACL in Week 8. He could be back in a starting role this season after signing a one-year deal with the Browns in March. Deshaun Watson is recovering from shoulder surgery, and while he’s reportedly made steady progress, there’s a chance he’s not ready for Week 1. Assuming Winston beats out fellow free-agent acquisition Tyler Huntley, he’ll have a solid group of playmakers to exploit. The Browns added Jerry Jeudy this offseason to form an excellent WR trio with Amari Cooper and Elijah Moore, in addition to tight end Davis Njoku and running back Nick Chubb (though Chubb is coming off a knee injury). At 30, Winston probably isn’t as mobile as he once was, but he should still add some rushing upside. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Leads final drive
Winston completed his only pass attempt for 16 yards and played five snaps in Sunday's 34-13 loss to Washington in Week 5.
ANALYSIS
Winston was given mop-up duty in the Browns' fourth loss in five games, taking the helm for the club's final possession. The offense was held under 20 points for a fifth time, and the struggles start at quarterback with Deshaun Watson. Calls for a change under center will grow louder this week as Cleveland prepares for a Week 6 tilt against Philadelphia, but head coach Kevin Stefanski was adamant about sticking with Watson following the game, per Zac Jackson of The Athletic.

Winston once seemed like a long-term option at quarterback for the Saints after spending one year as the understudy to Drew Brees. But Winston battled back fractures early last season, leading him to lose the starting job to Andy Dalton after Week 3 for the remainder of the campaign. With Derek Carr signed to a four-year, $150 million contract this offseason, Winston's time in New Orleans looked to be over before he agreed to a restructured contract in March. As a result, the 29-year-old Winston will enter the 2023 season as a backup alongside dual-threat veteran Taysom Hill and rookie fourth-rounder Jake Haener.
