2016 Fantasy Outlook
Hurd and counterpart Alvin Kamara formed one of the more formidable 1-2 punches in any backfield last season, and they’re both primed to take another step forward in 2016. While Kamara may have more shake, wiggle, and pass catching ability, Hurd is the unquestioned bellcow. The 6-4, 240, Hurd bruised opposing defenses for 1,288 yards and 12 scores on 277 carries last season (4.6 YPC). Hurd is the classic two-down back in a run heavy system, so he figures to have similar carry numbers this season while Kamara comes in for passing downs. Not only did Hurd have 172 more carries than Kamara, Hurd was tied for 10th in the nation in red-zone carries with 54 and that’s exactly where he ran for all 12 of his touchdowns. With that, Hurd may not be the most potent big play threat in the SEC, but he gets a tremendous amount of work near the goal line and he does tend to convert those chances into points, which makes him one of the premier fantasy backs in the nation in 2016.
