ANALYSIS
This is a big development for Houston as it prepares for its Dec. 24 Bowl Game against Fresno State. Birden had been running extremely well, averaging 5.5 yards per carry, prior to suffering a grisly elbow injury against Memphis on Oct. 19. Now that he's been cleared, there's a possibility he'll get back into game shape in time for the bowl. Duke Catalon still profiles as the lead back at this point, but that could change depending on how quickly Birden rounds into form.
